Scary Gourdmother
Ag markets ended Monday mostly higher
Grain traders were probably squaring positions Monday. The corn market has recently suffered badly from prospects for a huge U.S. harvest and from U.S. dollar strength. Today’s Export Inspections result also looked rather bearish. Nevertheless, futures rose modestly today, which probably reflected widespread short-covering ahead of tomorrow’s quarterly Grain Stocks report. December corn futures gained 2.75 cents to $3.2575/bushel in late Monday action, while May bounced 2.75 to $3.47.

Support for Garth Dano
We would like to go on record supporting Garth Dano for the Prosecutor job in Grant County. Garth is a long time Grant County Attorney and has served his clients well. It is time that we bring new blood to this office. We know that he will be responsive to all of Grant County residents, which has not always been the case with the current office holder. We urge you vote for Garth Dano.
Proud to support Angus Lee
This letter is in support of Angus Lee for Prosecutor. Angus served our country and has served our county well as Prosecutor. We appreciate his leadership in the Prosecutor's office and his commitment to fighting crime in Grant County as demonstrated by his record since he was elected. We are grateful for his support of law enforcement and for seeking punishment that fits the crime. He is a good family man and is involved in our community. Thank you Angus for a job well done. We are proud to support Angus Lee for Prosecutor.
Angus Lee is approachable
I am supporting Angus Lee for prosecuting attorney. He has done a fine job in office since he was elected. Juvenile crime has gone down approximately 40 percent in Grant County since its high point in 2008. Angus has strong family values and has also served our country in our military.
Proven ability and experience
I'm pleased to endorse Garth Dano for County Prosecuting Attorney. My wife Dorothy and I knew his father Harry and mother Dorothy , good friends, also from downstate Illinois. Garth's brother Brian has taught real estate law at Big Bend for the Realtors. The Dano family helped me become the first Republican elected to a Grant County office in over 50 years in 1982. Lots of Republicans since then!
Endorsement of Garth Dano for Prosecutor
I have lived in Grant County and Moses Lake my entire adult life with the exception of being out of the area during my professional baseball career. I have known Garth, his father, Harry, and his family for 40+ years. It's an honor and a privilege to endorse Garth for the Grant County Prosecutor's job. He has worked hard all his life, both as a farmer and as a lawyer and I know he will continue to do so for the benefit of all of the citizens of Grant County.

Time for new faces
Elections here again for city officials. People need to register and vote and put people in office that will do for the people. We need to talk and ask questions to those who are running for office. We as citizens have rights, nobody is above that law. Everybody responds to somebody above. It's time for new faces. Hear what they have to say. Who will do for the people and not brush law under the table and ignore our issues.
Vote for Tom Dent
The phrase "Reaching across the aisle," is often criticized as compromising ones principles. I disagree. The State House of Representatives is held by the opposition party. In order to advance the interests of all citizens of the 13th District, one must be able to communicate ideas and suggestions to the members of the opposition without alienating or creating hostility. As a longtime successful small business owner, rancher, and one familiar with the needs of the Agricultural Comunity as well as those of the 13th District citizens, I believe Tom Dent can do just that. That is why I am voting for Tom Dent for 13th District Representative, Position 1.

Crop futures proved quite weak again Friday morning
Dollar strength and harvest prospects are depressing crop markets. Anticipation of another massive U.S. corn crop is depressing prices. Weakness spilling over from the wheat and bean markets, as well as U.S. dollar values at 4.5-year highs are probably exaggerating current losses, despite an early announcement of a big sale to Mexico. December corn futures dipped 4.25 cents to $3.34/bushel in midday Friday activity, while May sagged 4.5 to $3.5475.

Ag markets turned mostly lower Friday morning
Large supplies are again weighing on the crop markets. Corn futures stabilized Thursday night in the wake of the bearish USDA reports and subsequent price drops to fresh lows. However, prices have subsequently weakened once again, despite early morning news of a sizeable corn sale to an unknown destination. December corn futures slid 2.5 cents to $3.385/bushel late Friday morning, while May sank 2.5 to $3.595.

Tom Dent is a natural leader
I am a resident and business owner in Moses Lake. I have had the privilege of knowing Tom Dent for about 15 years. I have had many discussions with Tom over the years and I have been very educated on issues that are often the topic of great debate and interest. He is a very intelligent and well-versed man on most all topics I bring up. Tom has taught me that one needs to understand all sides in order to have an intelligent discussion. He is a natural leader and educator. Leaders need to be able to get different sides together as well as getting all of us working in the same direction so we all benefit.
The right to bear arms
Most of us are familiar with the Second Amendment's "Shall Not Be Infringed" clause, but Article 1 Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution is not as well known. It states, "RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men."

Dam repairs a balancing act with Grant PUD's routine duties
GUEST EDITORIAL
Operating two hydroelectric plants on the Mid-Columbia River requires the ability to balance multiple interests at all times. Considerations for fish passage, recreation, cultural resources, electric generation, irrigation, and public safety are constants for Grant PUD. The complexity of this work compounds while we are responding to one of the greatest challenges faced by a hydropower operator on the Columbia River, a fracture at our Wanapum Dam.
A school for the future
While visiting Moses Lake this week my brother in-law, Rick Koba, suggested I might be interested in seeing the new C. V. Tech since I am a District administrator in Phoenix, AZ. I was extremely impressed and amazed by what we saw. Principal Armstrong welcomed us and gave us a wonderful tour of the facilities. The facility was both technologically and esthetically remarkable. I was impressed by how environmentally friendly the physical plant was and how well equipped each and every learning space was. Classrooms are equipped with state of the art technology and equipment I had only seen in movies such as 3-D printers. The kitchen is a chef's dream and while I am not very knowledgeable about heavy machinery it seemed students will be able to learn a trade using a shop that resembles real life worksites. What a tremendous asset to the community, students as well as future employers. It appears as t! hough in planning the school every detail was studied and accounted for using both internal expertise as well as input and assistance of local businesses. The school is truly a school for the future!

Angus Lee is a competent prosecutor
A few years ago my cousin was brutally murdered. He was shot in the back of the head execution style. I was devastated and found kindness and compassion from our elected prosecutor, D. Angus Lee. He provided diligence, competence and thoroughness in a successful prosecution to ensure citizen safety from this murderer. Angus is a former military man who served oversea to defend the safety and protection of the USA, until he was wounded. Like many others, who always deserve to be commended, with much gratitude and appreciation, thank you. Angus risked his own life to ensure safety for every American. As a prosecutor he has that leadership and cares about the victims' families too. He is a family man, easily approachable and takes the immediate time, when he can, to genuinely listen to the needs of people in this country. Angus has courage, strength and leadership. He has taken a lot of heat for 'cleaning house' when he was first elected. Those who understand politics and the FBI's definition of public corruption know exactly what I am talking about. Of course those that are in the "good boy networking" don't want him in office, because he stands for justice and integrity. He is not into that kind of back door politics and that is exactly why I choose Angus to continue his services as our elected prosecutor in Grant County. Thank you, Angus, for your services in the military and success as our elected prosecutor in Grant County. My family is Republican and I am a Democrat but regardless of political preference, the citizens of Grant County need to stand in leadership and be smart, vote Angus. For these reasons and many more, I approve this message.
Why re-invent the wheel?
Why re-invent the wheel? We have had Angus Lee as our Prosecuting Attorney for the past two terms. We have seen our juvenile crime rate go down in Grant County by 40% for five years in a row. Angus Lee has served us well not only with his professionalism, but his moral and integrity background has also served us as citizens in Grant County. We are proud to have Angus as our representative in the courts. Don't judge a person by the over-bearing signs, but look at the life behind the political scenario. My vote is for Angus Lee to continue his work and endeavor which he has already proven to us.
A citizen's duty
It is the citizen's duty to be an informed voter. The majority of citizens could be well informed voters who control the government. Or we can ignore our duty, and become enslaved by corrupt officials and unconstitutional laws.

Thursday's USDA reports generally bearish for crop markets
Corn futures reacted weakly to today’s USDA reports. The USDA’s September Crop Production and WASDE reports seemingly held bearish implications for the corn outlook, since futures built upon early losses in the wake of the news. December corn futures fell 8.75 cents to $3.37/bushel in late Thursday morning action, while May lost 8.75 to $3.58.

Ag markets posted mixed closes ahead of Thursday's USDA reports
Traders were looking forward to Thursday’s USDA reports Wednesday. Expectations for a massive corn harvest have weighed heavily upon the market this summer. However, the possibility that tomorrow’s USDA Crop Production and WASDE reports will hold surprises apparently spurred short-covering ahead of their release. Thus, corn futures traded slightly higher. December corn futures closed up 1.5 cents to $3.4575/bushel Wednesday, while May rose 1.25 to $3.6675.

Crop markets are mostly lower again Wednesday morning
Crop futures generally continued sliding Tuesday night. The ag industry is focusing upon the likely results of Thursday’s Crop Production and WASDE reports, with huge forecasts for the U.S. corn and soybean harvests likely. Thus, most crop futures sustained their recent downtrends overnight. But, we should probably look for short covering and position squaring starting today. December corn futures inched up 0.25 cent to $3.445/bushel early Wednesday morning, while May lost 0.25 to $3.6525.

Grain and soy prices remained weak Tuesday

Ag markets moved mostly lower Monday
Reduced frost risk undercut the crop markets Monday. The lack of action in the Black Sea region probably depressed the grain markets today, but the early revision to the weather forecast seems more important at this point. That is, the anticipated freeze line on the weekend weather forecasts moved northward, thereby reducing the potential damage to the corn and soybean crops. December corn futures fell 7.75 cents to $3.4825/bushel at their Monday close, while May lost 7.25 to $3.695.

Most ag markets closed the week strongly
Cool weather forecasts may have boosted the crop markets. Concerns about weekend events in the Black Sea region probably gave the grain markets an upward bias today. Traders also seemed to be reacting to cool weather forecasts, since a mid-September frost in northern Corn Belt could hurt corn and bean production. December corn futures closed up 9.5 cents at $3.56/bushel Friday afternoon, while May added 8.75 to $3.77.

Bolyard's honest approach
As Amercians we have rights - speech, press, assembly, bear arms, equal justice and own private property. We also have much loved and appreciated freedoms - travel, work, marry, education and selection of a political party. For the last eight years I have had the opportunity to serve in various capacities in the Grant County Republican Party. We are fortunate to have such dedicated people helping elect and hold accountable those who serve to uphold our constitution. I have worked closely in public and behind the scenes with both candidates for 13 District Representative. I can tell you first hand they are both very passionate about their endeavor. Unfortunately, only one has been fulfilling their duties with integrity. Dani Bolyard has gained respect statewide for her honest and candid approach to platforms and issues. She has fought hard to protect our lands and water and she has fought against over regulation. She is well educated, faithful and very knowledgable about the issues at hand. Thank you to all those that serve. I encourage you to visit with both Dani Bolyard (www.daniforrep.com) and her opponent before you vote in November.

Good, old fashioned customer service
I would like to thank the owners and employees at Affordable Auto gas station in Moses Lake, especially Shane. Having someone pump your gas, check the fluids and wash your windows is especially appreciated by the elderly, disabled and those of us who hate getting out of the car when it is too hot or too cold. We appreciate your commitment to providing a good, "old fashioned" customer service.

People first
One of our 'proven leaders' controlled the Grant Co. Republican party for nearly ten years as his own "do as I say" club. But when the citizens elected too many who challenged his agenda, he just refused to hold any meetings until their two year terms expired. His years of 'leadership' allowed him to write new rules that let him hold a 'closed' meeting on his private property, where he replaced several members on the executive board and appointed persons that night who voted to let him do as he chose. The people he appointed did not stay on in those positions, they were only there to help him remove board members who had dissented from his agenda. The over-used campaign slogan "proven leadership" is often nothing more than the typical padded resume.

Clay: First hunt productive
The plan was simple; meet in Wilson Creek at 5:30 a.m. and head north to our hunt area. My hunting buddy, Bill Green, was waiting when I arrived 20 minutes late. My usual goal is to be early when planning to meet a partner such as this, but, even though I was up and preparing for the hunt early, time slipped away before my Ram headed north on Stratford Road.

Soy, grain markets tumbled Wednesday
Crop forecasts are again depressing grain and soy prices. The weekly USDA Crop Progress report boosted the corn crop rating 1% to 74% good-to-excellent, which is the second highest late-August reading since 1994. The prospect of huge fall yields, as well as industry forecasts to that effect, clearly undercut CBOT futures. December corn futures closed 11.75 cents lower at $3.52 Wednesday, while May lost 11.0 to $3.7375.

December corn skidded 0.25 cent to $3.6425 late Tuesday morning, while May edged down 0.5 to $3.855.
