Los Lobos rocks Centennial Amphitheater

MOSES LAKE - The music was ear splitting, the crowd was raucous and the venue by the lake was packed, as Los Lobos rocked the stage Saturday night at the Centennial Amphitheater.

The multiple Grammy award-winning band from East Los Angeles closed out the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation's concert in the park series.

2014 marks the 40th year that Lobos has been touring and making music, a time period marked by multiple awards and waves of devoted fans.

Lobos snagged their first Grammy in 1983 in the Best Mexican-American Performance category for their song "Anselma," while their second came in Best Mexican-American Performance category for "La Pistola Y El Corazon" in 1989 and their last came in 1995 in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance category for "Mariachi Suite."

"We have been trying to get them to come to Moses Lake for years, and when they agreed to come we were thrilled because they put on such a great show," Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Director Spencer Grigg said.

Devoted Lobos fans arrived as early as an hour and half before the 8 p.m. show time Saturday night to claim the best seats on the lawn at the Centennial Amphitheater.

Lobos T-shirts decorated the venue, as fans of all ages were packed in tight on the lawn just to catch a glimpse of the legendary band.

"I have seen Los Lobos three times, the most recent coming just last night in Spokane. They do country, rock, blues, rhythm and Spanish styles of music, they do it all and do not get the attention they deserve," Eliazer Bravo, of Moses Lake, said.

As Lobos took the stage the crowd roared, and the show was on. The band played a full hour of their greatest hits.

The front of the stage was packed just as tight as the lawn, as devoted fans danced the night away to their favorite songs.

The biggest roar from the crowd came when the band played arguably their most famous song, a cover of the famous Ritchie Valens song "La Bamba."  

"It was great to see a lot of kids and families here tonight, especially at the front of the stage. They are a very personable band and proved tonight to be fun for the whole family," said Tia Majer, who sits on the Parks and Recreation Board and also hosted the band in her motor home.

Lobos closed out the night as a light rain started to fall on Centennial Amphitheater, but that did not stop the crowd from cheering for an encore.

The band obliged the crowd's wish and came back onto the stage to play another song before officially closing out their night.

For more than an hour after the show Lobos signed hats, albums, T-shirts and other memorabilia for devoted fans.

After the show Lobos headed west, as they were ticketed to perform at the popular Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle.
