MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs girls and boys cross-country team finished third at the Moses Lake Invitational held at Blue Heron Park over the weekend.

Othello's girls finished second and the boys team finished fourth in the five-team competition.

Chiefs senior Aleksandr Schwiesow finished second in the field of 37 with a 5K time of 17 minutes, 7 seconds.

"He pressed his competition from the start and ran a very fast first mile right at five minutes. He really persevered on a tough wet course," said Moses Lake cross-country coach Larry Dagnon.

Trenton Springs, a junior, finished fifth in the race with a time of 18 minutes, 41 seconds.

For the girls, Dagnon said he was impressed with the seventh place finish of senior Alexis Harper with a time of 22 minutes, 53 seconds. He said she was battling an injury.

"When she's healthy, it is really going to change the dynamic of the team," he said.

Chiefs' Junior Hayden Kersey finished ninth with a time of 23 minutes, 20 seconds.

This was the Chiefs third race of the year and Dagnon said the team is showing toughness.

The Chiefs next race will be Sept. 27 in Portland at the Nike Pre-Nationals.
