EPHRATA - Darryl Pheasant has been treasurer for 28 years, and he's asking voters for a new term in November.

"I have helped to lower taxpayers' tax bills for a more fair tax burden," he said.

Pheasant is being challenged by Moses Lake Republican Party official Casey Cooper, who launched his candidacy as a primary election write-in. Pheasant is the first elected county official in the state to run as non-partisan, in the 2010 election.

Pheasant is a Grant County native who grew up in the Ephrata-Soap lake area. He worked in the family farm and orchard business from the age of 12. He worked for Washington Trust Bank for four years prior to taking a deputy treasurer job.

The EHS grad attended Whitworth University and graduated from Eastern Washington University with BA in Finance and minor in Economics. He is past president of the Ephrata-Soap Lake United Way and past president and 30-year member of the Ephrata Rotary Club

Pheasant is the long-time treasurer for his church and Ephrata Youth Assets. He is president of Soap Lake Masquers Theatre and past president and current vice president of the County Treasurers Association.

"I want to continue my efforts in providing efficient, cost effective services to the taxpayers in Grant County," he said. "My office has provided innovative approaches to treasury management including establishment of an investment pool that has exceeded $240 million and has been among the top-yielding pools for counties in Washington for many years. Since its inception, this pool has provided many millions in additional interest revenue to the county, taxing districts and other participants."
