Rescued Afghan pups seek home in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - A pair of sister puppies, rescued on Valentine's Day from a snow bank in a tribal area of Afghanistan, are looking for a more peaceful and stable home in the Moses Lake area.
Autumn Brown, sister of Moses Lake resident Haven Brown, was opening schools earlier this year in the Eanyan province and found the month-old pups clinging to life in a remote mountainous area.
With no home, food or water, Brown said she knew the dogs would die without help. She scooped them up and gave them to a friend for safekeeping because she could not have them in her residence.
After a two-month stay in the friend's home and six-week stay at a more sanitary Afghan dog shelter, the puppies, named Coji and Panjab, were reunited with Brown and headed to the United States.
When her sister gave Haven Brown the dogs, she and her family fell in love. She said with their loving personality, curious nature and affectionate disposition, it would be difficult to not do so.
But with four young children at home, Haven said she knew she couldn't give the dogs the attention she felt they deserved and asked for help finding a forever home for them.
She said ideally the sister pups would be kept together; after all they've been through a lot and only had each other for support during some of the time. She said the most important thing is to get them to the right home, and she wants to find just the right place.
Coji is the more mischievous puppy and Haven describes her as happy and playful. Panjab is a "cuddle bug", Haven said, and loves to lie on her feet, seeking attention. Both dogs are socialized and play well with children and other dogs. They are healthy and current on the immunization shots, Haven said. She said both are kept outside and she has not taken the time to do much training, as she knew she would not be their permanent owner. She said they appear to be about seven to eight months old.
She said the puppies appear to be an Anatolian Shepherd/Afghan Hound mix.

There is a $225 adoption fee for each dog that Haven said she would like to split between a donation to the Nowzad shelter in Afghanistan where the dogs stayed for two months and the Grant County Animal Outreach.
