Warden sweeps Soap Lake, earns first league win

SOAP LAKE - Warden knocked off Soap Lake in its Central Washington 2B South opener in three games 25-17, 25-20, 25-23.

The Cougars moved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in their division, joining Kittitas and White Swan as teams to start the league slate with a win.

"Soap Lake played tougher and tougher as the match went on," head coach Dennis Treat said. "The Eagles did a good job of keeping us out of any kind of rhythm on the court."

Shania Kisler and Leilani Pruneda led the Warden offense with 5 kills each. Kisler also recorded 13 digs and 2 assists.

Setter Laurissa Kisler finished with 13 assists, 10 digs and 4 aces.

Lexy Pruneda had 12 digs and led the team in serve receive.

For Soap Lake, Nelly Korneychuk led the Eagle attack with 7 kills. Korneychuk also added 1 block.

Lania Babak had 4 aces and 7 assists while Taylor Harvill notched 4 kills and 3 blocks.

Warden continues league play at home Tuesday against Kittitas at 7 p.m.

Soap Lake will travel Tuesday to face White Swan at 5:30 p.m.

Big Bend outlasts Yakima Valley

MOSES LAKE - Big Bend earned its first NWAC East win Saturday, beating Yakima Valley in five games 15-25, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10.

The win improved the Vikings to 11-9 overall and 1-2 in region play.

"It was a pretty hard-fought match, but we came out on top," head coach Steve Duncan said.

Sophomores Whitney Southam and Shania Bateman led the way for Big Bend with 13 and 14 kills, respectively.

Freshman setter Nichole Dally orchestrated with offense, recording 37 assists.

Sophomore libero Kennedy Bell recorded a match-high 37 digs.

Big Bend will host Treasure Valley Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.

Duncan hopes to dispatch the Chukars quickly as the team faces first place Blue Mountain the next day at 2 p.m.

"Hopefully we'll be able to put that game away pretty quick, but with this league you never know," he said.
