MOSES LAKE - Columbia Basin Roller Derby will play host to Yakima's Wine Country Crushers this weekend.

The two teams are facing off for the second time this season, this time on CBRD's home track. CBRD managed to snag the win the last time the two teams met - they finished the March bout at the Yakima Sun Dome with a winning score of 169 to the Crusher's 128.

It was CBRD's second bout of the season and their first career win. The team is hoping for a another victory this Saturday, said captain Vernica "Verndetta" Mount.

"We've been skating a lot this season, so we're ready," she said. "We're definitely excited to play them, especially since it's our first home bout."

Saturday's bout takes place at the Grant County Fairgrounds' Commercial Building. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

Events kick off with a co-ed scrimmage at 5 p.m. Mount said some of the participants are members of the league's new co-ed team - a team they put together with the Atomic City Roller Girls out of the Tri-Cities.

The scrimmage will be an intense one, she said, with male skaters in the mix.

CBRD and the Crushers begin their competition at 7 p.m.

Mount said she encourages all CBRD fans to come out to Saturday's bout.

"This is our only home bout this year, we've been skating sometimes two, three times a month but always on the road," she said. "If they want to come cheer for us, this is their chance."

Next year, CBRD will have four home bouts - hosting teams in Moses Lake Feb. 21, April 25, May 2 and Oct. 3.

Mount said Saturday's event is also a great way for those in the area who have never been to a derby bout before to learn more about the sport.

"It's a lot of fun to watch," she said. "Derby is a high-intensity full-contact sport, if you've never seen a bout it's worth it to at least watch one."

Tickets for Saturday's bout are $7 for adults and $5 for children age six to 12. They can be purchased by going to www.brownpapertickets.com and typing in 'Columbia Basin Roller Derby' in the search bar.

Tickets go up to $10 for adults and $8 for children if purchased at the door.

There will also be a beer garden at the event, serviced by the Columbia Basin Eagles.
