Myths And Facts About LASIK
(NAPSI)—For those with vision correction needs, the daily rituals required in order to see clearly with glasses or contacts can be a real struggle. So it isn’t surprising that so many people consider LASIK as an attractive alternative to treat their vision correction issues. Although it is incredibly popular, LASIK is surprisingly misunderstood. Like many things that make their way into cultural norms, LASIK’s prevalence and success have led to the rise of many myths about the procedure. If you are among the millions considering LASIK, the American Refractive Surgery Council is here to dispel some common myths about the laser vision correction surgery:

Preaching righteousness not easy
Thank you once again pastors for your enlightenment by the gospel. I enjoy reading what you write each week and was especially drawn to the statement of bondage to sin. Coming at a time in history where we are calling evil good and good evil, where alternative lifestyles are more accepted than a righteous lifestyle this statement seems very timely. It must be difficult to preach against sin. I just have one word of caution when we transition from the bondage of sin to grace through faith. It can be very difficult to go from sin to grace through faith without being deceived by righteousness through the works of the law. It is easy to believe we can please God by following the law rather than by faith. When we realize that faith reveals God’s will then we can pursue righteousness through the knowledge of his will rather than the knowledge of good and evil seeking to be like God through our works.

Mississippi's law is being misinterpreted by the media
When Mississippi governor Phil Bryant signed the Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act earlier this month, the storm of opprobrium from the other 49 states was overwhelming. The new law, which specifically ensures the rights of religious organizations and individuals to adhere to their beliefs without government punishment, was immediately excoriated as an “anti-LGBT hate law” in the national press. Some compared the law to a resurgence of the Jim Crow laws that enforced segregation half a century ago. Dire warnings of LGBT people losing their jobs, being denied housing, and even being turned away from emergency medical treatment filled the air. Tellingly, nearly every news article about the law put the words “religious freedom” in quotation marks, as if to indicate that such freedom doesn’t really exist. Businesses have announced that they will not expand into Mississippi and musicians have canceled performances there.
Bad restroom experience not the state's fault
I read Shari Laibl’s letter, posted on April 18, and I understand why she is upset. It must have been very shocking to her family to have a man walk in while they were using the restroom at Blue Heron Park. Laibl’s letter explains that the “Men” and “Women” signs were removed from the restrooms, and she links this to a lack of morality in Washington’s government. The problem here is that the state government had nothing to do with that man walking into that restroom.

Not inevitable
No matter what the “Trump News Network” (Fox News) tells us daily, it is not inevitable that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee for president. If he does not receive the required 1,237 delegates by the July convention, he could easily lose on a second ballot to Ted Cruz because the delegates would no longer be bound to support him. Hopefully they would see how suicidal it would be to nominate a candidate with such high unfavorable poll numbers who would lose to Hillary Clinton by double digits. It could also mean big losses in Congress. If we want to avoid a total drop off the cliff of socialism, we need to nominate a strong Constitutional conservative Christian who will fight to protect our rights and slow down the growth of government. Ted Cruz would destroy Hillary in both the debates and in the election. Make sure to send a message to the Republican Party and delegates in the upcoming primary that we can register our disgust with the establishment without nominating a childish reality star who will lose badly. Instead we can nominate Ted Cruz who will be ready on Day 1 and will beat Hillary.

Ask the Addict: What causes addiction?
New column
In a single word: Pain; to be exact, pain avoidance/elimination. There are books, seminars and college courses that go into thorough examination of this question but the bottom line is pain. Pain, however, is a complex word that includes physical, emotional, mental and spiritual types and encompasses discomfort of all types: stress, worry, wounds, grief, anxiety, annoyance, sorrow, hunger, depression, humiliation, etcetera. Almost all addicts are simply in the process of pain reduction or elimination. What might start as a helpful medicine turns into an addiction due primarily to the combination of lack of education, lack of self-discipline and/or lack of boundaries as in the case of children or teens. A move from extreme pleasure to slightly comfortable can be experienced as a sort of pain. “Coming down or crashing” feels a lot like pain even though most people would call this feeling “normal.” When an addict is used to feeling euphoric; feeling “normal” feels painful and this pain encourages more “medicine.”

Restroom rules should reflect common sense
Until you have experienced it yourself, you cannot imagine the horror of taking your little granddaughters to the restroom in Moses Lake’s Blue Heron Park. This afternoon, April 18, 2016 was the first time we have been to a public restroom since the state decided to play political correctness at our expense. My 8-year-old and 4-year-old granddaughters needed to use the restroom. We saw there was no “women’s” or “men’s” rooms, only “restroom” on the two doors. The girls had to go and it appeared safe enough at first so I took them inside. Both toilets were filthy but after flushing and wiping them down the older girl went first. Then, the 4-year-old had to go. Right in the middle of her business, a big burly man walked right in. There are not even locks on the door or a vacancy sign to put in place. Both little girls were so traumatized they screamed all the way to the car. They were totally hysterical, as was I.

Political reporting: definitely maybe

A few corrections to restaurant locations
I read the article about the Bushes and the Wests. I did not know there were that many eating places in Moses Lake, but I did notice that some of their old locations were incorrect. For example, OK Tire was not where Taco Time is; it was Cook’s Phillips 66 service station. Tsunami Sushi was the second post office location; I don’t know about a jewelry store. The J’s Teriyaki was Fultz Rexall Drug before it moved where the Red Door is now and then it was Myra’s Dress Shop. Just a point of interest, the post office is in its fourth location.
