Restroom rules should reflect common sense

| April 21, 2016 1:45 PM

Until you have experienced it yourself, you cannot imagine the horror of taking your little granddaughters to the restroom in Moses Lake’s Blue Heron Park. This afternoon, April 18, 2016 was the first time we have been to a public restroom since the state decided to play political correctness at our expense. My 8-year-old and 4-year-old granddaughters needed to use the restroom. We saw there was no “women’s” or “men’s” rooms, only “restroom” on the two doors. The girls had to go and it appeared safe enough at first so I took them inside. Both toilets were filthy but after flushing and wiping them down the older girl went first. Then, the 4-year-old had to go. Right in the middle of her business, a big burly man walked right in. There are not even locks on the door or a vacancy sign to put in place. Both little girls were so traumatized they screamed all the way to the car. They were totally hysterical, as was I.

What in Heaven’s name is wrong with Washington state? Have we no sense of morals anymore? These children have been taught correct principles and know they are to have privacy when they use a restroom. Our picnic was over before we could even enjoy the meal. We had family visiting from the Netherlands. They were mortified. Even in Europe (which is quite liberal) they don’t allow men to walk right into the women’s restrooms. Olympia, please get your heads on straight and allow Washington state residents some measure of modesty.
