Big Bend stumbles against CBC, falls in NWAC East standings

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend tumbled down the standings of the NWAC East after a pair of losses to Columbia Basin.

Big Bend (10-8, 21-9) entered Wednesday in a tie for second place, but dropped to fifth after the sweep. Columbia Basin used a five-run first inning to take the opener 9-4.

Anthony Cosline’s three-run double in the 10th inning of Game 2 helped the Hawks complete the sweep 8-4.

In the opener, the Vikings trailed 9-1 in the middle of the sixth inning before plating two in the home half. Big Bend added one more run in the eighth inning, but were out-hit 14-6 and committed two errors.

Bryan Wulf scored on a passed ball in the first inning and Sam Glowicki drove in two on a home run in the sixth. Auggie Francis also homered in the eighth inning.

Moses Lake High School grad Drew Loera was 1-for-4 with one RBI for the visitor’s in Game 1.

Chase Tunstall was given the no decision in the nightcap for Big Bend, but had a solid outing. The Moses Lake grad pitched 8 2/3 innings with three runs allowed and three strikeouts.

Both teams entered the ninth inning tied 2-2. Columbia Basin scratched out a run on a RBI single by Goseline. Big Bend forced extra innings on Francis’ second home run of the afternoon.

However, the momentum wasn’t sustained as Columbia Basin scored five runs in the 10th inning. Big Bend scored one run in the bottom of the 10th, but the rally ended when Cody Reilly struck out.

Big Bend hosts an important series with Treasure Valley Saturday.

Moses Lake fourth at CBBN POD No. 5

WENATCHEE — Moses Lake took fourth place overall with 350 points at the fifth Columbia Basin Big Nine POD.

Eisenhower’s Holden Backes was the individual medalist with a low score of 71. Dennis Craig carded an 81 for Moses Lake and placed eighth.

Four Chiefs were bunched together in the standings with similar scores: Hunter Hake (89), Trevor Jones (89), Wes Harrington (91) and Carlos Farias (92). Trevor West scored 96 and placed 25th.

Moses Lake has its home POD May 3 at the Moses Lake Country Club.

Moses Lake sweeps Eisenhower

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake boys tennis moved above .500 in the Columbia Basin Big Nine after beating Eisenhower 5-2.

Moses Lake girls tennis rallied for a 4-3 win.

The girls lost three straight in singles before Elle Sanislo won the No. 4 match and the Chiefs swept the doubles portion.

David Hernandez and Brian Nguyen picked up wins in boys’ singles.

The Chiefs won all three doubles matches.
