Fastpitch Prom raises nearly $3,000 for Knights

ROYAL CITY — If you wonder whether fund-raising helps an athletic team, consider the Royal High fastpitch team. After two years of their Fastpitch Prom, the Knights have become a force in the SCAC.

The fans are noticing, too. Last Friday, they ponied up just less than $3,000 in sponsorship for the prom. The funds came from businesses, family members and occasional innocent bystanders.

There was a minimum $50 donation for a sponsor, and all of the money goes toward camp scholarships for the Next Level Fastpitch Club – the same girls who play during the season – for summer training.

“To give you an idea of what this means, camps generally cost between $250-$450 (or more) per person,” Coach Robyn Valdez said. “This money means that we have the opportunity to send more kids to camp without a big financial burden on the families. That, in turn, means growth of the fastpitch program in Royal.”

The girls have a great time playing this game in their prom dresses for a little inter-squad friendly competition. They play just as hard as in uniform and really entertain the audience.

“Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored an athlete and to everyone who came out to watch the game and support the girls,” Valdez said.
