May 31, 1943 – April 11, 2016

Sharon Kay Svopa entered into eternity April 11, 2016 in Moses Lake Washington at the age of 73 from complications related to health.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jerry Svopa; three children: Debbie Meeuwse, Nathan Svopa and Nadine Svopa; four grandchildren: Steven, Kelsey, Jacob and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren: Cameron and Sophia.

Seventh child in a family of 10 children from Fort Pierre, South Dakota and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sharon loved researching genealogy and connecting with relatives all over the United States. Her family experienced great joy hearing stories from the past and feeling the love she lavished on the children.

Sharon was always a high-energy woman who enjoyed being around others, entertaining, and camping. She was a military wife for over 20 years, traveled, lived and raised her children in many states, while her husband was serving in the Navy, she participated in many church programs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, arts and handicraft fairs and sewing, completed high school and college, worked many different jobs and held down the fort. The fondest memories include living in a camper on the beach in San Diego for an entire summer while her husband was in military school, growing and canning her produce, summer vacations visiting national parks, family reunions in South Dakota and Pennsylvania, watching her children love, laugh, and live. After retirement from the Navy, Sharon and Jerry moved to Moses Lake and bought and started a business, experienced the wrath of Mother Nature when Mt. St. Helens erupted, and started over again. They raised their grandson, Brandon, and are very active in Special Olympics. Sharon worked at Walmart and Burger King, and remained a resident until her death.

Contributions in memory can be made to Special Olympics, Moses Lake Chapter. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m, Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories, 831 S.
