Moses Lake overmatched in losses to Wenatchee

MOSES LAKE — Overmatched against a senior-laden Wenatchee squad, Moses Lake was swept at home.

Brandon Swett gave the Chiefs some life with a RBI double in the sixth inning of Game 1. However, Wenatchee ace Grady Miller entered the game in the seventh and retired the side in order, preserving a 6-2 final score.

Wenatchee jumped all over Moses Lake in Game 2, scoring eight runs in the first inning. The Panthers would go on to win 12-0.

Moses Lake avoided the big inning in the opener. Starting pitcher Cade Tunstall was aided by stellar defensive play to keep the Panthers from stringing hits together.

Wenatchee led 2-0 after one inning, but was stifled in the second and third. The Panthers stretched their lead to 3-0 on a RBI single by Colin VanLaar in the fourth inning and tacked on one run each in the fifth and sixth inning.

The Chiefs plated two in the home half of the sixth, but Wenatchee answered with a sacrifice fly in the seventh,

Moses Lake (2-4 CBBN, 2-6) host Sunnyside tonight at 4 p.m.


Othello extends win streak to three

GRANDVIEW —Alix Garcia went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the opener and Othello swept Grandview 13-3 and 20-6.

The sweep extended the Huskies’ (4-3 CWAC, 5-4) win streak to three games.

Othello broke Game 1 open with seven runs in the sixth inning.

Othello led 10-0 after two innings in the nightcap. The Huskies host Quincy in a double-header April 9.


Ephrata loses twice to Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG — Ephrata was handed its first two losses of the season by Ellensburg 6-5 and 4-2.

Game 1 went to extra innings tied 5-5 and Ellensburg’s Dustin Kjorsvik scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Tigers scratched out a pair of unearned runs in the second game.

Ephrata (5-2 CWAC, 6-2) hosts W.F. West in a non-league game, 6 p.m., Tuesday.


Quincy pounds Wapato

QUINCY — Quincy (4-3 CWAC, 5-3) rallied to beat Wapato in the first game 11-6 and routed the Wolves 18-2 in the second to complete the sweep.

The Wolves led 2-0 in Game 1 before the Jacks regained a 7-2 lead behind a five-run fifth inning. Four more insurance runs in the sixth inning helped stave off a comeback attempt by Wapato.


Tennis

Moses Lake edged by Eastmont

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake boys and girls tennis was edged by Eastmont 4-3.

The loss dropped the boys back to 3-3 in the Columbia Basin Big Nine. The girls moved to 1-5.

Moses Lake won all six doubles matches, but couldn’t get over the hump in singles. The Wildcats won every singles match.

No. 1 singles players Canon Gregoire and Micayla Friend had valiant showings against state tournament veterans. Friend jumped ahead 2-0 against Lily Waterhouse before succumbing 6-2, 6-2.

Gregoire fought Landon Martin to a 6-3, 6-3 loss.

Moses Lake returns to the court April 14 at home against Davis.


Ephrata splits with Prosser

EPHRATA — Ephrata boys tennis beat Prosser 4-1, but the girls were narrowly defeated 3-2.

Ephrata travels to East Valley April 12.


Quincy races past Wapato

WAPATO — Quincy tennis lost only one match against Wapato.

The boys beat the Wolves 4-1 and the girls were a perfect 5-0.

Quincy hosts Selah April 12.


College softball

Big Bend goes 1-3 over the weekend

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend lost three out of four games over the weekend and dropped to 6-13 overall.

The Vikings were swept by Walla Walla 14-7 and 14-3 on Friday. On Saturday, Big Bend split with Blue Mountain. The Timberwolves on the opener 11-7, but the Vikings came back to salvage the split with a dramatic 11-0 win in the nightcap.

Big Bend scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the win.
