Emma Villa takes second place
ROYAL CITY — Royal City 10-year-old Emma Villa finished second at her weight class at the Reno, Nevada Wrestling Worlds last weekend.
Villa also made All-American for the second consecutive year. She wrestled against girls from California, Colorado and Washington.
Villa, who is coached by her father Carlos Villa and Uncle Junior Hernandez, won regularly against boys. It toughened her up for the switch to girls wrestling
The Reno Worlds is one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the country. There were competitors from all 48 states.
Villa placed second in girls 10-and-under at 80 pounds. She became an All-American last year in a boys tournament in Las Vegas. She wrestles out of Freedom Wrestling Academy in Moses Lake.
Emma has wrestled for more than three years and has mostly wrestled boys.
Villa recently won a Double Crown at the Women’s Columbia Cup in Richland in March. That means she placed first in folkstyle and first in freestyle in the same tournament.
