Warden splits with Kittitas

WARDEN — Shoddy defense and a lack of timely hitting doomed Warden in its 5-3 loss to Kittitas.

The Cougars stranded seven runners in scoring position and committed three errors.

“This wasn’t us,” head coach Dan Caballero said.

Kittitas broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the sixth inning.

Warden (3-1, 8-2) salvaged the split with an 8-1 win in the second game. Kittitas scored an unearned run in the first inning before Warden regained the lead with three runs in the home half.

Wade Visker scored Zach Askin on a sacrifice fly and JohnRay Mast hit a two-run single. Warden extended its lead with five runs in the second inning. “We went on cruise control,” Caballero said. “A lot of it is our mental approach. We’ve got to get tougher.”

Moses Lake splits with Davis

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake settled into fifth place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine with a split against Davis.

Behind a solid start from Jason Cole, the Chiefs (5-7, 5-9) took the opener 5-3. Cole pitched five innings and allowed three runs on four hits.

Jonathan Imperial gave Davis an early 1-0 lead with a RBI double in the third inning. However, Moses Lake answered with four runs in the home half to take the lead for good.

Caleb Juarez was 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

Davis’ bats awoke in the nightcap and the Pirates won 12-3.

Brandon Swett tied the game, 3-3, in the third inning with a two-run homer. But Davis scored nine unanswered runs over the final four innings.

Ephrata drops two against Selah

SELAH — Ephrata had Selah on the ropes in its first game, leading 4-1 entering the bottom of the seven.

The Vikings were able to rally with four runs in the frame, capped by a walk-off two-run double by Waylon Pettijohn, to win 5-4. The Tigers (7-5, 8-6) dropped the second game 5-0.

In the opener, Zac Berryman had two RBI for Ephrata. Starter Logan Moss pitched 6 2/3 innings, coming one out away from the win.

Ephrata scattered seven hits off Selah started Dustin Yates in the nightcap, but couldn’t score. Yates recorded nine strikeouts.

Joey Mihelich and Cole Spencer had two hits each.

Quincy improves to third in CWAC

QUINCY — Quincy swept Prosser and moved into a tie for third place in the CWAC with East Valley.

Quincy (8-4, 9-5) won the opener 4-1 and took the nightcap 10-4.

Othello takes two from Wapato

WAPATO — Othello swept Wapato 11-1 and 14-2, moving into a tie with Ephrata for fourth place in the CWAC.

Othello (7-5, 8-6) scored 11 runs on 12 hits in the opener, which lasted five innings.

In Game 2, both teams entered the seventh inning tied 2-2 before the Huskies exploded for 12 runs.

Soap Lake swept by Riverside Christian

YAKIMA — Soap Lake struggled on the road against Riverside Christian, losing 8-0 and 18-1.

The Eagles couldn’t solve Michael Catton, who struck out 16 batters.

Quincy suffers loss to East Valley

QUINCY — In a game featuring the two best defenses in the CWAC, Jovanni Carriedo’s goal in the 39th minute was the difference.

Quincy was unable to answer and recorded a 1-0 loss.

Moses Lake shutout at West Valley

YAKIMA — Moses Lake dropped a road game to West Valley 2-0.

Edgar Ramirez and Logan Gamache scored for the Rams.

Moses Lake (4-4, 5-6) dropped into a tie for fourth place in the CBBN with Eastmont.
