Learning to live in a Technical World
Twenty students and three advisors from Wahluke Junior High attended the 2016 Technology Student Association state convention at the SeaTac Doubletree March 29-April 2.

MATTAWA — Jessica Arellano from Wahluke High School and Wahluke Junior High School’s Natalia Nevarez will attend the Technology Student Association National Convention this summer as a result of their efforts at the state TSA Convention recently.
The state convention, held at the SeaTac DoubleTree saw the participation of 20 junior high and 14 high school students from Wahluke. There were several competitions.
“This opportunity connected the students’ engineering design studies to the relevance of design and the economics that help drive Washington State,” TSA Advisor Arthur Morken said.
Wahluke students were able to visit the Everett Boeing airplane manufacturing plant during the trip, thanks in part to a grant from the Gene Haas Foundation.
Wahluke High School students Brayan Santiago and Maggie Arlt placed in the top five in the high school woodworking competition. Nevarez took second place in the junior high CAD (Computer Aided Design) Foundation’s competition, and Erik Godinez took first in junior high woodworking competition.
One of the highlights of the trip for Wahluke students was to see Arellano voted in as the State TSA vice-president. She will spend the next year promoting the mission of TSA, helping organize Technology Student Associations around the state.
There were more than 30 competitions and approximately 1,200 students in attendance.
