Early morning fire chars building in Moses Lake
Grant County PUD crews work to repair power poles that were damaged in a fire near Moses Lake early Wednesday morning.
MOSES LAKE — A fire damaged a building early Wednesday morning near Moses Lake. Crews were at the scene until around noon.
Firefighters with Grant County Fire District No. 5 responded to the fire in the 5400 block of Mae Valley Road about 3:30 a.m., according to Grant County Fire District No. 5 Chief Dan Smith. Smith said in total the district had nine pieces of equipment at the scene to combat the fire, which was under control by firefighters about 4:30 a.m. GCFD No. 5 crews were at the scene until about noon on Wednesday. Grant County PUD crews worked throughout the day on Wednesday to fix power poles near the building that were damaged by the fire.
Smith explained the structure was originally designed to serve as a potato cellar and is divided into two sections, an original section and an add-on. The fire heavily damaged the original section of the building, with several vehicles and pieces of equipment destroyed. There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is not known and under investigation by the Grant County Fire Marshal’s Office, Smith said.
