Prep roundup: Ephrata edged by East Valley 2-1

EPHRATA — Armando Farias scored in the 75th minute, but Ephrata’s comeback fell short against East Valley 2-1.

Juan Soto scored twice for the Red Devils in the first half, who led 2-0 at intermission.

East Valley has allowed the fewest goals (10) this season. Andres Mendoza made three saves for Ephrata (1-5, 4-9).

Othello 1, Ellensburg 0

ELLENSBURG — Othello blanked Ellensburg 1-0 behind 11 saves from Jose Chairez.

Othello (4-2, 9-3) scored its lone goal in the 28th minute.

After four road games in a row, Othello is back at home Tuesday against Selah.

Eastmont 4, Moses Lake 1

EAST WENATCHEE — Moses Lake dropped to fifth place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine, losing to Eastmont 4-1.

Moses Lake (4-6, 5-8) will look to get off its snide Friday at home against Davis.

Warden 5, La Salle 0

WARDEN — Warden routed La Salle 5-0.

It was a season-high scoring outburst for the Cougars (3-9-1).

Warden travels to Wahluke on Tuesday before its senior night Thursday against Royal.


Baseball

Warden notches a pair of combined no-hitters

WARDEN — Warden pitching put on a display against Waterville, no-hitting the Shockers in a pair of 14-0 wins.

In Game 1, Tyson Yamane and Guillermo Gonzalez combined for the no-no. Game 2 was Zach Askin and Carlos Reyes.

Yamane and Drake Hansen were 2-for-4 and 3-for-4, respectively in the opener. Isaac Campos tripled and singled.

Askin was 3-for-4 and JR Delgado doubled twice in Game 2.

“It was good to see the kids break out the bats a little bit,” head coach Dan Caballero said.

Warden (5-1, 11-3) travels to Cashmere on Tuesday and then faces Riverside Christian on Friday for a chance to clinch the Central Washington 2B South league championship.

Moses Lake swept at Eastmont

EAST WENATCHEE — Moses Lake was swept on the road at Eastmont 5-4 and 8-5.

Tied 4-4 in the sixth inning, Eastmont’s Luke Browning singled to drive in the go-ahead run in the opener.

Moses Lake held a brief 4-2 lead after scoring two runs each in the fourth and fifth inning. Jason Cole was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Chiefs (5-10, 5-12) trailed 8-2 in the nightcap before scoring three runs in the seventh. Cole smacked a three-run double. However, the rally fell short.

Ephrata takes two from Toppenish

EPHRATA — Ephrata moved into a tie for fourth place in the CWAC by sweeping Toppenish 9-0 and 10-2.

Losses by Quincy and Othello caused the shift and now all three teams are tied at 9-6.

Jackson Gray and Tyler Lutz pitched a combined shutout for the Tigers (9-6, 10-7) in Game 1. Zac Berryman was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Joey Mihelich drove in two runs and scored three times.

In the nightcap, Gunnar Falstad pitched six innings and had six strikeouts. Bryce Davis and Jared Durfee had three RBI each.

Quincy shut down by East Valley

YAKIMA — Quincy was unable to solve East Valley’s pitching duo of Lucas Juarez and Brock Ribail, losing 3-0 and 9-0.

Quincy (9-6, 10-7) had seven total hits between the two games.

Othello splits with Prosser

OTHELLO — Othello lost its opener to Prosser 8-1 before taking the nightcap 10-6.

Othello (9-6, 10-7) hosts Ephrata Tuesday in a game that will break up a logjam for fourth place in the CWAC.


Track and field

Moses Lake girls seventh at Kiwanis Invitational

HERMISTON, Ore. — Elly Johnson won the discus with a mark of 125-02 and Moses Lake finished seventh at the Kiwanis Invitational with 54 points.

The Moses Lake boys totaled 19.5 points and finished 11th.

Heather Carbon took second in the pole vault and Draven Nevarez finished second in the javelin.

Ephrata boys edge Okanogan at Quincy Invite

QUINCY — Ephrata eked out a one-point win over Okanogan at the Quincy Invite with 90 points.

Ephrata girls took fourth with 71 points. Quincy boys and girls finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
