God will be there for you when you seek Him

Today I had the privilege of being with my daughter during my granddaughter’s tonsil and adenoid surgery. This procedure is the end of a three-year journey of ear infections and sickness.

My granddaughter is the latest in a long line of tonsil growers. I have had my tonsils out twice and many of my cousins have experienced the same surgery two and three times.

In other words, she was genetically doomed.

From the time she was born, she experienced repeated ear infections. At seven months she was hospitalized for 10 days with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, or RSV, which is a respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages.

The infections caused problems with her Eustachian tubes. At 18 months she had to have her adenoids removed to allow the Eustachian tubes room to function.

But today, we are sitting here putting all our trust in a surgeon. We are relying on him to help this little girl have a better quality of life.

We are not the only ones who have entrusted their loved one to this doctor. In the two hours that we have been here, we have seen five children besides our own pass through this surgery center.

This made me wonder how people put their full trust in a human surgeon with limited abilities but have a hard time trusting God, who has unlimited power and grace, the Creator of an entire world.

It probably has something to do with people only believing in what we can actually see. But what we need to realize is that Jesus has the power to save, heal and protect us.

In Isaiah 43:2 it says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

It is because of Christ’s amazing power and compassion that my daughter and I know that the surgeon’s hand will be guided by God.

During our wait, we were comforted by Proverbs 3:5 which says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Because of our relationship with our Creator, we know that He will be there when we need Him. There isn’t any aspect of our lives that God isn’t a part of. We are connected and secure.

Needless to say, my granddaughter came through the surgery with flying colors and was back to telling us all what to do by the afternoon.

She has a sore throat but that is a small price to pay for being able to breathe and hopefully putting an end to all of her sickness.

I don’t know how people get through stressful situations without God, but I do know that it is something that I never want to try. Remember God will be there for you if you ask.
