MOSES LAKE — Students and North Elementary were thrilled to welcome their dads and other male role models into their school for the Donuts for Dads event.

Students were accompanied by their dads, grandfathers, uncles, male teachers, four Grant County firemen and other male role models for the event recently. The youngsters and their company chose donuts and books and enjoyed the morning together.

The event was organized by North’s Culture Team, led by Carina Cruz. Cruz said the turnout was solid.

“Dads and students were happy and that’s what matters,” Cruz said.

The fun didn’t stop there, as students also enjoyed some kite-flying at the end of the day. More than 200 kites took to the sky about the North playground Friday afternoon. Students got to choose a kite to be assembled and flown earlier in the day. Chrissy Johnson, a paraprofessional at North, and her family put on a demonstration during recess, flying huge kites to set the stage for the students later in the day.

After recess, the students got to try their hand at flying kites. Older students helped their younger peers assemble kites, and their families were invited back to the school to help get the kites into the air. North Principal Kelly Frederick said it was a challenge to reel back in all the kites, but most of them made it back to solid ground safely.

“North values its families and these events will not be soon forgotten by parents, staff, or the students themselves,” Frederick said.
