Warden routs Royal in doubleheader

ROYAL CITY — A solid day from the dish helped Warden complete a sweep of Royal on the road.

The Cougars won the opener 13-3 and the nightcap 12-1.

“That Royal team is pretty athletic,” head coach Dan Caballero said. “They’ll be competing in their league pretty well.”

Guillermo Gonzalez went five innings before JR Delgado closed the final two.

Zach Askin swung the big stick, finishing 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Delgado went 3-for-5 with a double and Drake Hansen was 2-for-5.

Tyson Yamane, Askin, Delgado and Hansen had multi-hit games for Warden in Game 2. Askin hit two doubles.

“We did a pretty good job hitting the ball today,” Caballero said.

Davis 12, Moses Lake 2

YAKIMA — Moses Lake trailed Davis 6-2 before the Pirates put together six runs in the sixth inning to win 12-2.

Maceyn Green-Cerillo, Desmond Ortega, Caleb Juarez, Brandon Swett and Cody Goodwin had one hit each for the Chiefs. Swett also scored a run.

Cade Tunstall pitched five innings and struck out two.

Ephrata 12, Wapato 0

WAPATO — Ephrata scored six runs in the second inning and five runs in the fifth, beating Wapato 12-0.

The Tigers pounded out 15 hits led by Tyler Lutz who was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Jared Durfee had two RBI and one run scored.

Gunnar Falstad pitched a complete game shutout with two strikeouts.

Othello 13, Toppenish 2

TOPPENISH — Othello led 8-0 after one inning and beat Toppenish 13-2.

“We were able to draw some walks and that really flustered them,” head coach Larry Gonzalez said.

Alex Garcia was 2-for-3 with a double.

Selah 8, Quincy 1

QUINCY — Quincy’s four-game winning streak ended against Selah 8-1.

The Jacks left several runners on base.

Nick Lopez pitched five innings, allowing five runs.


Tennis

Othello sweeps Grandview

OTHELLO — Othello boys and girls tennis beat Grandview 5-0.

The girls improved to 8-0 overall with the win. The boys moved to 7-1. Both teams are 3-0 in Central Washington Athletic Conference play.

Breann Tovar defeated Alexandra Gonzalez 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Sylvia Rodriguez edged Jozelle Prieto 6-3, 6-1.

All three Lady Huskies doubles teams won in straight sets.

Diego Villareal won 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 boys singles match. Jonathan DeLeon won by default.

No. 1 doubles team Collin Freeman and Kyle Villarreal and No. 2 doubles team Josh Valdez and Levi Garza both won 6-1, 6-1.

No. 3 doubles Sterling Roylance and Asai Villarreal won 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Ephrata sweeps East Valley

YAKIMA — Ephrata kept pace in the CWAC with a pair of wins over East Valley.

The boys won 4-1 and the girls won a close 3-2 contest.


Girls golf

Moses Lake third at CBBN pod No. 3

WENATCHEE — Mikayla Chavez carded a 99 and Moses Lake finished third at CBBN pod No. 3 held at the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club.

Chavez’s 99 was good for eighth overall. Wenatchee’s Kadi Freund finished first with a score of 83 and Wenatchee ran away from the field with team score of 370, setting a course record.

Moses Lake finished third with a team score of 429.

Courtney Sanislo scored 108 and took 13th. Charlie Sanislo and Payton Erdmann both scored 111 and tied for 14th. Kerisa Sanislo shot a 124 and took 26th.
