Royal City clean-up this week

ROYAL CITY — There was not a lot of activity at the Royal City Council meeting of April 5, but there was important news.

One of those items was the announcement that the annual city clean-up has been scheduled for this weekend, April 22-24.

Daisy Street project came up. The water main replacement will be more difficult than expected due to the discovery of caliche rock underneath the surface in some areas of the project.

There are still some challenges with the used street sweeper the city recently bought. After a test run, it was discovered that the skirting was not sealing appropriately. More repair work is needed.

The Council heard that city office staff has recently experienced problems with the phone system. A technician recommended replacing the current system and hardware. They are several years old.

CenturyLink quoted $8,000 for the replacement package. More quotes will be obtained before moving forward.

The police department report to the Council showed two marijuana-related DUI which are the first in Royal City.

The departments two new patrol vehicles have been delivered. Chief Darin Smith will decide on graphics for the vehicles.

The Council approved a consent agenda that included a payroll of $21,172.12 and claims in the amount of $112,875.10.
