ROYAL CITY — You could say this year’s Royal City SummerFest – A Knight on the Beach – is for people who dream of faraway places with sand and surf.

The annual community day will be celebrated the weekend of July 8-10. There will be new things, as always, but you’ll be able to enjoy all of the old standbys.

Some of those require early attention, and there is a challenge with one of them.

Kally Carter of KK (Kally Kay) Hair Studio is conducting a talent search for Royal’s Got Talent for Friday, July 8. She will have some special fun surprises that you will do well not to miss.

Sandra Godoy is chairing the third annual Quilt Show at SummerFest, July 9. Make plans now to register to display your quilts.

The quilts are not judged. The people, however, vote on a People’s Choice Award anonymously.

“The more, the merrier,” said long-time SummerFest Committee member Leslie Fanning.

Sherrie Combs Rodriguez is the vendor chair. If you want to be a vendor in the park, Sherrie is the go-to gal. Don’t delay.

Sherrie also has planned great options for blow-up toys this year, with even more than last year.

Dana Hebdon has been the organizer for the Run Royale fun run for the past three years. She has stepped down, and the committee needs someone to replace her.

“We have a possible chair now,” Fanning said. “But if you’d like to help, please contact us. It takes more than one person to run the event.”

Dana will share the logistics of race day with whomever takes over.

Every year, Run Royale is an opportunity for persons to run for their health and, at the same time, contribute their entry fees to a worthy cause in the community. They’ve included individuals battling an illness, for a capital expenditure such as defibrillators for the fire department and for groups such as SHOC.

If you have a suggestion for the 2016 Run Royale, you may contact one of the committee members: Cara Hoyt, Tiffany Workinger, Mario Godoy-Gonzalez, Julirae Gunter-Castleton, Sharon Chesterman, Angel Jones Koehn, Sherrie Combs Rodriguez.

SummerFest purchases the T-shirts for the entries with funds donated by patrons. It also provides a fund for prizes from the same source. New races – chocolate, bubble, color, obstacles – are being considered.

“If you have an idea, we’ll help you put it into action,” Fanning said.

If you like to plan and organize, you are asked to contact Cara Hoyt, Sherrie Combs Rodriguez, Tiffany Workinger, Julirae Gunter-Castleton, Mario Godoy-Gonzalez or Fanning.
