It has always been my mission to learn the skills myself firsthand and then pass those tips and tricks onto anyone who was willing to listen. Thus, the Klippin Krazy community was born and has been growing substantially ever since. Each week, Klippin Krazy fans from around the country, ask me to help guide them on their couponing quests. Here is just a little sampling of some of those questions in a fun little Dear Abby like way…

Wine may be healthier than you think
Much has been written about the health benefits of wine consumption. Naturally nothing is definitive as everybody is different. In addition I am not a health care professional and nothing that follows should be taken as an admonition to drink wine. Wine consumption is a topic that should be discussed with your health care professional and the key word in wine drinking, as in everything else, is "moderation." Having said all that, one can generally discuss some of the research and what started it all.

Reader thankful for event support
The Moses Lake High School Jazz Bands would like to thank the community for the support of their 2nd annual Jazz Swing Dance, Tuxedo Junction, which was held on June 3rd. Heartfelt thanks to Harlan Beagley and the Columbia Basin Herald for their donated time, flyers and ad space, we are most appreciative of their continued endorsement of our students and our program. Our night would not have been possible if not for the devoted help of these people: Christine Quinn, decorations, Danielle Boss and Susan Miller, refreshments, The DeLong Family, stage setup, D Jay Kendall, many hours on lights and sound preparation, and all of the Jazz Band Parents. Community members also involved: Ty Ballinger, swing dance instruction, Andrew's Hallmark, ticket sales, Hard Back Cafe, donation of Italian sodas and coffee and Dale Roth Productions! Once again, this years' swing dance was a success and we look forward to next year, when we hope you all will join us!
Reader wants discussion to solve problem
Who is the winner when we play the blame game? Please, blame me for the problems that are in the schools today. I have had a child or grandchild in school since the early 70s. So, I guess, that qualifies me to accept the blame. The problems we have now were there when my kids started school but I was silent. I held my tongue when my kids were bullied and harassed and the staff did nothing. I have been quiet when a student asks for help and is told, "I explained that already, so figure it out for yourself." I did nothing when our Legislators decided truant students should be jailed as punishment for their crime. I didn't say a word when God was removed from the school. So, you see, I am to blame for all that has gone wrong in the school system. The word respect has been tossed around in these discussions and the best definition for respect comes from the Scriptures, "Think more highly of others than you do of yourself."
Reader encourages practicing freedom
Thanksgiving, Veterans' Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and many times throughout the year, we reflect on being thankful; grateful for the freedoms we have received through the founding fathers, the American Revolution, every soldier, Marine, sailor, and, if we reflect enough, thankful to the God who inspired a desire for freedom.
Reader hopes physicians will stay
I sure hope we can keep these three doctors in Moses Lake. It would be a shame and a big loss to many of us. Dr. Friesen saved my life as I had a 99 percent blockage in the heart and other medical conditions which she keeps a close eye on. I would hope these three doctors would start their own practice in the Moses Lake area. These three doctors treat patients as people, friends and family. I hope my doctor stays in Moses Lake so I do not have to travel to see her.
Reader upset by county politics
After experiencing what it is like to be "home teamed" by Grant County bureaucrats and suffering under the heavy hand of local government regulators, I find rumors of similar behavior, by these offenders, to be very credible.

Reader appreciates community's support
In October, we had the Relay for Life Kick Off. Anticipating a possible off year because of the economy we still set our goals, continued our planning, met monthly with team captains, and hit the track at Moses Lake High School on June 3 for a 24 hour experience. Obviously, the folks in Moses Lake who have family/friends who have/had cancer were not worried about the state of the economy. I'm excited to report that Relay raised over $134,000, saw 970 participants, and welcomed 170 survivors all passionate about finding a cure and supporting the American Cancer Society. Thank you Moses Lake!

Reader believes education begins at home
The uproar over what Lynne Lynch wrote in the newspaper has been followed by many of us. I too considered ending my subscription. I don't like censorship of some because others disagree with what is being said. One thing I haven't seen pointed out though, is the fact that education starts in the home. If, as parents, you are not raising respectful, disciplined children, then you are the problem. You cannot raise thugs, send them to our schools and make us all just accept it. Why did you have kids if you won't put the effort into raising them? The growing crime and gang problem plaguing our communities is caused by poor parenting. Yeah, I said it! Be a parent, actually raise your kids right. If you want to raise thugs, I'll vote to build more prisons. You can visit the product of your "parenting" there.

Fishing Magician Report - June 17th
If you haven't heard, fishing for triploid rainbow at Rufus Woods Reservoir is hot right now. I had heard reports of fish kills due to nitrogen saturation below Coulee Dam and that all the fish in the pens had died. Well, apparently some have survived. The river is full of them. I even saw fish jumping in the lower net pens on a recent trip there. Maybe fish were released from the upper pens rather than have them die in confinement. Whatever happened, anglers will be reaping the benefits.

Sharing Is Caring
So many of you have expressed a deep concern about what people do with all the extra products couponers tend bring home with them. It’s true, I do tend to fill my home with a lot of great finds due to items having a super low price or being completely free because of couponing. You tend to think that there is NO WAY that one family can possibly use 20 deodorants, 30 boxes of pasta, or 15 toothpastes. You worry that “stock piling” might be unhealthy and lead to hoarding thousands of products under our children’s beds and filling rooms from top to bottom leaving nowhere for a family to dwell. You think because of our selfish ways that items are going to spoil, expire, or simply be thrown away because they can no longer be used. While this may be true for a very very small number of extreme families, most couponers use their bargain seeking tools to help support their community and lend where aide is needed most. This is what I like to think of as my couponing mantra… Sharing is Caring!

Man Up Movement is a organization created locally about three months ago it has spread to other cities and states and even as far as Canada. They also strongly support our troops and have members currently on deployment in Iraq and Bahrain. The overall message of the movement is to bring awareness that as men they have a moral obligation to not only be a good role model to their children and their community but also a man with good values and character. You can follow them on face book by searching Man Up Movement and learn upcoming events and community projects.

Got Expired Coupons?
I get asked ALL the time… What do you do with the small mountain of your unused and expired coupons every month? The answer is simple… I donate them! You would typically think that if a coupon has passed its expiration date, that they would be worthless and bound for the trash can. That’s not true with a very generous overseas military coupon program. Coupons can continue to be used by families for up to six months after their expiration date at overseas military bases. What a fantastic tool for our brave men and women to utilize while stationed away from our deep American discounts and familiar grocery stores right? This is a program I believe in full-heartedly and hope that maybe I can inspire you to believe and participate in as well. Please read on to see what options you have to extend the life of your coupons while doing a great charitable service for our armed forces!

Walleye season is back in the Columbia Basin
It's definitely walleye season on the lakes in our region. The cold spring weather held many of the big females in the spawning areas longer than usual, but the fish are in post spawn mode now, and feeding. I have made two trips to Moses Lake in the past couple of weeks and am happy to share what I have experienced there.

Reader happy with Spring Fest
I absolutely loved the metal artwork in the downtown area of Moses Lake. TUTORING PROGRAM Reader encourages seniors to volunteer
In January I responded to an ad in our CBH newspaper looking for volunteers to help in a tutoring program for elementary school age kids. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things I've done in years. I would like to encourage any senior and retired persons who would like to make a positive impact on the kids in our community to look into this. It's less than 1.5 hours a day. Some tutors come one or two days a week, some come more. The need is great and the good you can do, even greater. The program I attended is run by Youth Senior Connection, directed by retired teacher Wanda Harrison. If you remember the persons in your life who influence you as a child, here's a way to honor their memory and pay it forward.

Fishing Magician Report - June 3rd
I have been trying to get back up to Lake Chelan and take some folks fishing, but am having a hard time scheduling when the sun is shining. There are plenty of sunny days, just not the ones when I can go. There are a lot of great things going on at Chelan right now. The kokanee fishing is hot. Anglers are getting limits of these baby sockeye in no time, and I want to get some people in on that action. After I get limits of kokanee chilled in the cooler I want to show them some lake trout fishing. When the kokanee are in the lower basin at Chelan the lake trout really put on the feed bag and you can catch some really prime fish. It is not unusual to catch them while fishing for kokanee, even in very shallow water, and boy do they fight! At this time of year there is another option for anglers in the lower basin, and that’s smallmouth bass. There are docks, stumps and rock piles that can be seen in the shallow, clear water and there are usually smallmouth hanging around them. I’m not a “pro” so I don’t catch the 5- and 6-pound fish when they are on the nests, but I have a ball catching fish up to 3 pounds just cruising around near Lakeside, and all the way down to the Chelan River section of the lake.

ARDELL PAVILION Reader wants 4-H/FFA given chance for use
I was reading in the Business Journal that there have been some complaints about the pavilion use. I want to know what is being done about this issue. I completely understand that the pavilion should definitely be made available to paying patrons and gain revenue from its use. There does, however, need to be some sort of agreement made. While I feel that the pavilion should be rented out, the pavilion should also be made available to 4-H/FFA groups when not being rented out. There are not a lot of facilities in the area that allow for indoor practice. The pavilion is really the only place. There are many times when the kids get to fair and their animals "freak out" because there is a strange shadow in the pavilion; this can be fixed by allowing 4-H/FFA members the ability to use the pavilion in the summer months as well. I don't think that anyone group needs to be given privilege over another. However, there needs to be a compromise. The fairgrounds needs to remember that the 4-H/FFA kids are a big priority to the livelihood of the fair and we need to come up with a solution that keeps everyone happy!

REMEMBERING Reader recalls Memorial Day
Standing between the silent ranks, the future generation stood in remembrance. The whispering sound of marching, flags in the light breeze, and silent prayer the only intrusion. On Memorial Day, cadets of the Columbia Basin squadron of the Civil Air Patrol stood among veterans of our country to pay homage to those in the ranks who have fallen before. Some of the silent ranks had fallen in battle, some long after their time of service. By column and element, their memorials stood proudly to proclaim the freedom they had given so much for. Today is the day they had been promised, a day to remember them by.

Fishing Magician Report - June 1st
Wow. Hard to believe it’s June already, especially with the chilly, wet weather we’ve had. There are some good things coming up in June, though. One of them is the opening of Grimes Lake for fishing. Grimes is located just north of the top end of Jameson Lake and is reached by driving through the town of Mansfield. It is loaded with Lahontan cutthroat, and can be terrific. It is a real favorite of fly fishers, but is not restricted to fly fishing only. There is a one-fish limit and selective gear rules apply. I made another trip to Moses Lake to try for walleye. My fishing buddy Rollie Schmitten had never caught a walleye and I was pretty sure I could help him cross this species off his list. There was a late bite, at least I wasn’t able to get any action until after 11 a.m. and we quit at just after on 1 p.m. to avoid getting rained on. In that time we boated five keepers, with one walleye a 22-incher. It took me a while to figure out what color was going to work that day, and when I did the action was pretty steady. We missed at least twice as many fish as we hooked. We were trolling spinners behind bottom bouncers, and found the best action at the north end of the lake.

A lesson in the fine art of wine
The biggest problem wine presents to the average person is the overwhelming amount of information about wine. Over the centuries the grapevine has mutated enough so that current estimates suggest there are around 11,000 different varieties of European grapevines. And this does not count American or Asian grape varieties. Then each of these grapes will taste different depending on where it is planted and depending on the weather of the year.
