Born Virginia Speight in Waseca, Minnesota, "Gini" as she was called, lived in the Columbia Basin for more than six decades. A determined woman, she and her husband Kenneth Hill, who died in December, raised their three daughters in Moses Lake.

Virginia and Ken were full partners with clear roles - Gini ran the household, raised the girls, and managed the household finances, while Ken brought in the bulk of the family's income as an operating engineer on construction projects. They were firmly committed to one another - they were happily married for more than 60 years - and to their family.

Gini knew how to make a home and did so in a small trailer that they moved to various construction sites in the early years of her marriage. In 1959, Ginny and Ken moved their trailer to a part-time farm unit outside of Moses Lake and settled in. They valued education and wanted the girls to be in one place, year after year.

When the girls finished high school, Ken and Gini built and lived in three more homes. They built her dream home on Moses Lake and spent time boating and fishing. Next came a home on the Warden Golf course, where both golfed every day. And, finally, they built a home next door to Patty and Todd.

Virginia is survived by their three daughters (Linda Marie Plattner, Karen Suzette Hill and Patricia Anne Voth); seven grandchildren (Jason Thompson, Arin Swinger, Rick Gill, Dan Gill, Cody Voth, Tiffany Cook and Candace Cook); and six great-grandchildren.

The family asked that donations be made to the Columbia Basin Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1337, Moses Lake, WA 98837
