Counterfeiters pass $20 bills at Sasquatch

| June 24, 2011 6:00 AM

GEORGE - Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones reported recently that counterfeiters passed $20 bills at the Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre on Memorial weekend.

The counterfeit bills that were passed - totaling at least $800 - were discovered in weekend bank deposits made by the victim businesses, Gorge Campground Store and Gorge-contracted Aramark concession vendors, Jones said.

Forty-one of the fake bills had been found as of June 7. They were printed on bleached $1 bills, Jones said. The giveaway was that they all had the same serial number.

Jones said it is not known who passed the bills, and an investigation is continuing. As of June 7, no additional businesses had filed a complaint.

Persons who may have pertinent information are asked to call the GCSO at 754-2011, ext. 468 or email crimetips@co.grant.wa.us.
