EPHRATA - An 8-year-old child was killed and three people injured when the vehicle they were riding in crashed just north of Ephrata.

A 1994 Saturn four-door was travelling northbound on Frey Road Northwest on Wednesday afternoon, when the car failed to negotiate a curve, according to Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones. It struck and broke a telephone pole before rolling onto its roof.

Alexandra Hamilton, of Quincy, died from injuries sustained in the wreck, according to Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison.

Front seat passenger John Hale, 39, Coulee City, was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for a reported back injury before being flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, according to the sheriff's office.

Driver Shaynel Anslow, 29, Soap Lake, and an 11-year-old female rear passenger from Quincy were transported to Samaritan for treatment of minor injuries.

Deputies determined speed was allegedly a factor in the cause of the crash and an investigation continues, said Jones.

"The Grant County Sheriff's Office sends their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victims," Jones stated. "It is a sad day for Grant County as we have suffered the loss of another youth due to excessive speed."

Grant County Fire District 13, the Ephrata Fire Department and AMR Ambulance were dispatched to assist with the wreck.
