GEORGE - One of the more exhilarating summer events in George, the Rock & Ride Bike Tour, will be held on Saturday, June 18.

"You get fresh air, you get to see our part of the world up close and personal, you get great exercise, and you get to choose how far you go," spokesman Debbie Kooy said.

The Rock & Ride is not a set race. Bikers can choose a 10-mile, 30-mile, 70-mile or even 100-mile course. The idea is to see the southern Quincy Valley at their leisure.

The Rock & Ride is not just a bike tour. There are added events, such as the George Farmers Market and wine and beer tasting.

The farmers market will offer fresh area produce, farm fresh eggs, crafts and retail marketers and vendors of foods and treats. It is held in the area of the George Community Hall.

The George Community Hall will also be the siteĀ  of a wine and beer garden sponsored by the Quincy Valley Tourism Association. It will feature wines from White Heron Cellars and cold beer from microbrewer John Cedargreen's Ancient Lakes Brewery.

"We have invited some great local musicians," Kooy said. "They include the Luke McKean Trio, Darnell Scott & Desert Blues and the Gear Jammers. They will provide day-long music."
