MATTAWA - The LDS Church of Mattawa invites the community of Mattawa and Desert Aire to a U.S. Flag raising ceremony at Hund Memorial Park at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 4.

The Fourth of July celebration will include a free pancake breakfast for all who attend. It will be prepared and served by community volunteers.

"The more, the merrier," said event spokeswoman Christine Yorgesen.

According to Yorgesen, the church has done flag raisings before, at the church. It decided to make it a community event this year.

According to City of Mattawa Finance Officer Diane Martinez, Public Works Director Gray Crowder has shored up the flag pole that was loose and installed lighting.

According to etiquette for the U.S. Flag, it must not fly at night unless it is illuminated.
