Farm loans offered to women, minorities

| June 5, 2011 6:00 AM

EPHRATA - A special pot of federal money was allocated for farm loans for women and minorities.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency (FSA) encourages women and minorities to apply for the funds.

"While FSA farm loans are available to all qualified applicants, by setting funds aside specifically for minorities and women, it ensures that they will receive a portion of available funds," stated Judy Olson, FSA state executive director.

Property, livestock and farm equipment can be purchased with the loan money. Costs associated with operating a farm, construction of farm buildings, conservation practices and refinancing debt are also covered by the loan.

For more information, contact Libby Anderson, an Ephrata-based farm loan manager, at 509-754-2463, ext. 2.
