QUINCY - Quincy Mayor Jim Hemberry provided more details about his commission on crime.

The mayor announced the commission will be comprised of 22 people. Eight people will be drawn from neighborhoods, created by dividing the city into eight sections. Four of the positions will be filled by business owners.

"(We) tentatively have a youth representative ... I think we have that one," Hemberry said. "I already have somebody from the ministerial association and somebody from Grant County Health District."

Grant County Fire District 3 and the Quincy Valley Medical Center will also have representatives on the commission, he said. The school district will have two representatives and a position for the chief and one councilmember.

"I was approached by Councilmember (Jeremy) McCreary saying that he would like to be involved. This was a month ago I guess," Hemberry said.

The mayor received a list of people willing to participate in the project during a recent town hall meeting. Councilmember Scott Lybbert started the sign up sheet, collecting 120 signatures, Hemberry said.

"So, that tells you that people are serious about helping out," he said.

The city plans to use the list to find people interested in participating as neighborhood representatives, Hemberry said.

"I'm excited to get started. I've been having a lot of people send me information and I found some stuff online," he said. "The people seem to be really, geniunely excited for this. Like I said, 'We can't fix this problem, if we don't have community support.'"
