Mattawa sidewalk contract given green light

MATTAWA - The Mattawa City Council authorized Mayor Judy Jesser to sign a contract for the design of a new sidewalk at its meeting of May 19.

The new sidewalk will be installed on Boundary Street between Fourth Street and Government Way, according to City Clerk Robin Newcomb. The total project cost is estimated at $100,000.

The contract Jesser was authorized to sign with Gray & Osborne Engineering of Yakima was for a maximum of $15,000. Gray & Osborne will design the sidewalk and prepare the construction bid process.

According to Newcomb, the new sidewalk is being funded by a $90,000 grant from the Transportation Improvement Board and a $10,000 match by the city.

Jesser was also authorized to enter contracts with Z Engineering and Wilson Engineering for upgrades to the control system at the waste water treatment plant. Those will total about $23,000.

The goal of this project, according to Newcomb, is to clear the memory of the waste water computer system, reprogram it and install updates that will make it usable into the future.

In other items before the council, councilwoman Maggie Celaya announced that the date of Mattawa Community Days has been set for August 27.

Jesser announced that city revenues have been matching expenditures so far this year.
