WENATCHEE - The winning feeling is slowly coming to the Moses Lake Walleyes this summer, albeit in small pieces.

They won their first two games in Yakima last week and this weekend found their way into the win column Sunday to wrap up action at the Wenatchee Tournament, finishing with a 1-3 mark.

The Walleyes moved to 3-11 on the season and wrapped up tournament play with a 12-11 win over Gresham yesterday to end things on a positive note.

Moses Lake scored seven runs in the fourth inning and then watched Gresham tie the game at 11 before scoring once in the bottom of the seventh to end things on a positive note.

Hector Zavala had four hits, Trino Rubio added three and Brad Fox, Jordan Hooper, and Elliot Sage each had two knocks for the Walleyes. Chase Tunstall, Hooper and Fox all had two RBI as the Walleyes finished with 16 hits.

The team started the weekend with a 12-1 loss to Toyota Baseball on Friday.

Hooper and Loera had two hits apiece as Moses Lake finished with seven hits and were undone by a seven run Toyota sixth inning.

Zavala started on the mound and took the loss as he was undone by five team errors.

On Saturday, the Walleyes fell 9-1 to the Redmond Flames, who used a six-run fourth inning to pull away.

Gunner Raymond got the only Moses Lake hit.

Later that day, the Washington Warriors pulled away from a close game after two innings to win 14-3.

Moses Lake scored all three runs in the bottom of the first inning which saw Raymond hit a two-run home run.

Fox, Sage and Colton Kelly all had two hits.

"Our pitching and defense need to be strengths," Walleyes head coach Quintz Whitaker said. "We need to have guys wanting the ball hit to them.  We are getting closer but it something we must continue to strengthen it. Our hitting has carried us throughout.  Also the boys are coming along in regards to how to handle adversity. They have been able to battle back and win some games because of their effort and desire.  The coaches are enjoying watching them grow as a team and play together with trust and heart."

The Walleyes will now have the next week-plus off before they head to Hermiston for a two-game visit.

The next day the will play in Pasco before returning home for a June 30 doubleheader against Eastmont at 6 p.m.

Two days later, Moses Lake plays host to Wenatchee for another doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.

All Walleyes home games are played at Larson Field.
