Vehicles don't belong on the sidewalk
Grant County and the City of Moses Lake need to make a law to stop vehicles from parking on sidewalks. When citizens are forced to walk in the road to avoid vehicles parked on sidewalks, it becomes unsafe for citizens. In my hometown in Florida, it’s a $250 fine to park your vehicle on the sidewalk. It’s local government’s responsibility to keep its citizens safe. When I become mayor of Moses Lake there will be no more parking on sidewalks and there will be no more non-disabled people parking in reserved disabled spots. It’s time for government to stop talking and start working for its citizens. And that I will do when I become Moses Lake mayor or city manager.

An improvement program for Moses Lake was suggested in 1941. This indicates a community with growing pains. This isn’t a bad situation, but one which needs attention for the betterment of all. The Columbia Basin Irrigation Project was in its beginning phases and the city fathers knew Moses Lake was going to expand. Getting ahead of this expansion would be a smart move. Read on.

William Harley Bagwell
Our dad, William Harley Bagwell, was born on Oct. 21, 1944, in Wenatchee, Wash. to George Leslie Bagwell and Evelyn Julia Archer Bagwell. Dad’s dad was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis at an early age which left Dad as an only child to be raised by his mother, grandmother and a handful of uncles. Despite this non-traditional way of being raised, Dad always told the best stories about his childhood and teen years. The Corfu area will always hold a special place in our hearts as the place “where Dad grew up”.

Mike Riggs would serve city well
We are writing in support of Mike Riggs for city council. Now, more than ever, Moses Lake needs a person who is beyond the dishonesty of the recent past. Mike is such a person. His many friends will tell you he is an honest guy, one whose actions are fully transparent. He has had experiences working with a wide variety of people, negotiating and communicating and reaching consensus. Many of you know Mike through his work with the Boy Scouts, the church, Serve Moses Lake and the BBCC Foundation. You know he is a thoughtful person, open minded and hard working. We know Mike mostly as co-chair of the Trails Planning Team. This group has worked for more than a dozen years to improve our city’s walking and biking trail. Mike is a talented person who wants to make Moses Lake a better place for us all. He deserves your help and support as he is a dedicated public servant.

Elliott understands the cyclical nature of the agricultural economy and is well qualified to represent the agricultural community when it comes to decisions about additional school buildings.

I appreciate the editorial board trying to elevate discourse for the current local political campaign. Here are my concerns:
Dean Hankins for city council
I would like to endorse Dean Hankins for city council. I have known Dean for all 21 years that I have lived in Moses Lake. I feel that he is the best candidate for this position. I have worked closely with him and know that he is honest, straightforward and thoughtful in all that he does. Dean will represent the citizens of Moses Lake well and is just what our city needs. I do believe he will be a voice for reason on the city council applying years of insight that he has obtained as a longtime resident of Moses Lake. He is passionate about this community and its citizens. He dedicated to the improvement of the city council and its function, and as a non—politician will listen to you and your concerns. This is something we can all get behind.
Moses Lake deserves better discourse
I have read the recent editorials and letters to the editor concerning our City Council races, and I am dismayed at the level of discourse concerning the election. The vast bulk of what poses as legitimate debate fails to rise above the level of character assassination. Our community deserves better. We deserve to hear how the candidates propose to address the issues that face us. We deserve to hear each candidate’s vision for Moses Lake.
