MOSES LAKE — Spencer Kimbro’s passport is filled to the brim.

Kimbro, a wheelchair athlete from Moses Lake, will close out his summer season at the World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland. In past years, Kimbro has competed in the Netherlands, Toronto and Qatar as a member of the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field team, U.S. Paralympic World Championship team and Junior World Championship team.

More, Kimbro also plays basketball in Spokane’s National Wheelchair Basketball Association Junior team.

Kimbro is one out of 20 athletes chosen for Team USA and will leave Saturday for Nottwil; the games run Aug. 3-6.

According to the meet’s website, over 380 Para athletes from 50 countries participated in the four-day competition last year.

“It will be one of the better places I’ve visited,” he said. “Should be some good competition.”

Kimbro earned his spot on Team USA after a meet in Los Angeles, however, the incoming Moses Lake High School senior had to overcome an injury sustained on June 20.

“I’m kind of back to where I was,” he said.

Kimbro will compete in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meters, hoping to maintain the times he has currently set or possibly reach a new personal best in Nottwil.

Recently, Kimbro was spotlighted by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association as its summer student spotlight.

As far as his final year of high school, Kimbro just wants to continue the success he’s had the previous three years.

Kimbro has totaled 10 state track and field championships in his first three years with Moses Lake.

The goal is the same in his final one: “I’m looking forward to another four state titles.”
