River Dogs place third in Montana

HELENA, Mont. — The River Dogs finished the Keith Sell Invitational on a four-game win streak to take third place.

The River Dogs defeated Bitterroot 13-2 in the third-place game. Columbia Basin scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Gage Gibson and Abel Gomez drove in two runs each; Zac Berryman had three RBI.

Unfortunately, Thursday’s 5-3 loss to Bozeman kept Columbia Basin out of the championship game. Both teams finished pool play 3-1, but Bozeman held the tiebreaker.

After its loss to Bozeman in the opener, Columbia Basin beat Bitterroot 5-1, Helena 10-8 and Calgary 9-0.

Moses Lake’s Jordan Rios pitched a complete game three-hitter against Calgary.

Columbia Basin travels to the Firecracker Invitational in Yakima on Thursday.

Spuds post 3-1 record in the Palouse

PULLMAN — Robert Haensel’s only regret from the weekend was that his team had to come home.

A walk-off 3-2 loss to the Boys of Summer in eight innings kept the Spuds from bracket play. Boys of Summer advanced after both teams completed pool play 2-1.

Brandon Swett hit an RBI single to tie the game 1-1 in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, Kameron Huberdeau scored from first base on a series of errors.

However, Boys of Summer scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to win the game.

The Spuds bounced back with wins against Laces 12-8 and Kent 6-0.

Cameron Duke was 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored against Laces. Austin Valdez and Michael Harrington added two RBI each.

Cade Tunstall pitched a two-hit shutout against Kent. Wade Visker was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Central Washington heads to Yakima’s Firecracker Invitational on Thursday.

Walleyes finish 1-4 in Spokane

SPOKANE — The Walleyes finished 1-4 at the Spokane wood bat tournament.

Moses Lake lost to the Spokane Crew 14-2 and the Columbia Gorge River Bandits 5-4.

The Walleyes posted their lone win of the weekend against Medical Lake 11-7. The Walleyes fell behind 4-2 before scoring seven runs in the third inning.

Blake Pugh doubled twice and drove in two runs. C.J. Ramirez and J.C. Worsham added two RBI each.

Moses Lake dropped its next game to the Eagle Vipers 10-2.

Moses Lake lost its final game to East Valley 17-9. East Vally broke a 4-4 tie with seven runs in the third inning.

Worsham drove in three runs.
