Spuds close regular season with split against Twin City

RICHLAND — Central Washington closed its regular season with a split on the road against Twin City.

Cade Tunstall pitched a complete game and the Spuds won the opener 9-2. The Spuds dropped the nightcap 7-2.

Central Washington set the tone in the first inning of the first game with three runs, never trailing in the first game. Cody Goodwin scored Cameron Duke on a double into left field and Austin Valdez followed with a two-out two-run double. Valdez finished with three RBI.

Twin City closed to within one run after three innings before Central Washington scored six unanswered.

Kameron Huberdeau skied a sacrifice fly and Duke hit a RBI single to make the score 5-2 in the fourth inning. Valdez tallied his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, scoring Tunstall.

In the sixth inning, Duke came home on a passed ball and Wade Visker scored on a sacrifice fly by Tunstall.

Tunstall took advantage of the early lead, allowing five hits in seven innings.

Central Washington begins its state tournament run against Mt. Spokane, noon, Saturday
