Reader upset with parade float
Coming to Crescent Bar, expecting a good, innocent, patriotic celebration of our country's birth has been a must-see event for Barbara and I for about 30 years now. I've always believe it's an opportunity to teach our children good values and celebrate what's great about our nation's independence. Ninety-nine percent of the floats in this year's parade accomplished that. Imagine my surprise when the "Heroes of Crescent Bar" float rolled past with cemetery crosses labeled "commissioner" on them. What kind of message does this send? What does this teach our children? The people who created that image need to apologize to first, the children on the float who were used by the adults who created the float, secondly, to the rest of their fellow islanders, and most of all, to the commissioners. Did you really believe this would help attain the goal of lease extension? I understand your frustrations, but this was over the top. Last year, I recall seeing the words "Mt. KillaPUD" on the back of a float. I have worked quietly and tirelessly behind the scenes to change this perception by the rate payers of Grant County P.U.D., in regard to Crescent Bar Island. By the time I had gotten to Ephrata Tuesday morning for damage control, the news had already reached there. You have to understand this is an absolute defenseless position for me. What can I do but say it was the feelings of just a few. Without a dog in this fight, I feel I need to have the support of the more sensible minds on the island in order to know I'm standing on fertile soil. How about it Crescent Bar, are you with me?

Reader disagrees with industrial contracts
Well it's happened, large industrial power customers will start receiving power contracts. At Mondays PUD meeting Commissioners Brewer, Bernd and Walker voted to allow REC to receive unlimited power and use multiple meters for 20 years into the future. To their credit Commissioners Allred and Flint voted against this power pig out. This opens the door for all large industrial customers in this rate class to receive the same. This irresponsible action will greatly effect power rates for residential and farm customers in the future. Aside from the fact that Grant PUD is out of physical power from its project they will now have to build expensive infrastructure to accommodate the increasing power demands as a result of this vote. The other rate classes will help pay for this increased cost. Much more market power will have to be purchased as a result. Multiple meters will have the effect of reducing the power bill for these industrial customers by placing them in a lower rate tier further reducing revenue from the industrials.

They later settled in Blackfoot, ID when his sons began school. He worked at American Potato (later known as Basic American Foods) for over 30 years. Your position of "no tax increases" is unreasonable, while holding the federal debt ceiling bill "hostage." What purpose is served by your failure to raise the debt ceiling? It is not the welfare of the country that you are serving? By continuing this "so-called debate" to not pass the debt ceiling.

Raffle Permit Hunts deadline three weeks away
MOSES LAKE - The Washington State Raffle Permit Hunts deadline is July 22. Our way of thinking about this opportunity is to consider it a gamble, yes, but one where we can spend as much money as we want. Another way of thinking is to consider it a tax where a taxpayer spends as much as he wants.
