Fire threatens homes near Wilson Creek
A fire was moving north from near Odessa Monday afternoon and toward Lincoln C ounty.
MOSES LAKE - A wind-whipped wildfire covered 1,200 acres and threatened several homes Monday evening in northeast Grant County.
The fire started around noon on the border of Lincoln and Grant counties, about 10 miles northeast of Wilson Creek.
Windy conditions caused the fire to spread quickly, burning an estimated 1,200 acres by Monday afternoon, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Ron Bowen. At least four residences were threatened by the fire, although no evacuations were in place as of Monday evening, Bowen said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Washington State Patrol Deputy Chief David Karnitz authorized the mobilization of state fire fighting resources in support of local firefighters at the request of Lincoln County Fire District 3.
Mobilization specialists from the Fire Protection Bureau ordered five strike teams of brush engines and water tenders, an incident management team and a Bureau of Land Management Aerial Supervision airplane to supplement local crews.
The State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan is implemented to provide a process to quickly notify, assemble and deploy fire service personnel, equipment and other resources from around the state when fires, disasters or other events exceed the capacity of local jurisdictions.
