Reader wants partisan cooperation

Your position of "no tax increases" is unreasonable, while holding the federal debt ceiling bill "hostage." What purpose is served by your failure to raise the debt ceiling? It is not the welfare of the country that you are serving? By continuing this "so-called debate" to not pass the debt ceiling.

It cannot be the "principle" of opposing raising the debt ceiling, since all of you and at least 30 other Republicans voted to raise the debt ceiling eleven times under both President Bushes. What purpose was served then? Stability of our financial system was paramount to raising the debt ceiling.

What purpose is served by today's position to not pass the debt ceiling? "Defeat President Obama in 2012, at any cost," says Senator McConnell in January 2009. Republicans have made every effort to defeat any legislation for the "good of the country" as the acceptable price to defeat Obama in 2012. Even though they originated the idea, or introduced a bill to help Americans, or accepted an idea as good, once President Obama signed onto the program, Republicans decided to defeat the bill. This final "defeated bill" will be catastrophic; to financial markets, housing and banking interests, business finances, personal finances.

You should all be sent home, without pay, until you agree to return to Washington, DC and represent our country again - not your rich donors and corporate sponsors. Our country's future is at stake and you do not appear to be concerned! Put party politics aside and represent our country and all your constituents or you will be replaced.
