Moses Lake looking for reserve officers

MOSES LAKE - The City of Moses Lake is currently accepting applications for reserve police officers.

The department has four non-paid positions available and are looking for qualified individuals interested in donating 20 hours of their time per month, according to Capt. Dave Ruffin, who said this will bring the department's reserve program up to 10 officers.

Applicants must meet several minimum qualifications before being considered. They must be at least 21 years of age, a U.S. Citizen, have completed high school or have a GED certificate and be physically fit. They must also have a clean driving record and pass a criminal background investigation.

Reserves attend a six month academy for a few hours two times a week and some Saturdays, Ruffin said. Trained reserve officers perform the same duties as regular officers, he said, although, "it takes a little while longer to gain experience just doing it part time."

Interested candidates should have a strong commitment to community service or be interested in a future law enforcement career.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 30, 2011.
