History of Larson AFB topic of historical society

EPHRATA - Margaret Schiffner of Moses Lake will make a presentation about the history of Larson Air Force Base at the July 14 Grant County Historical Society meeting.

The GCHS regular monthly meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion Post No. 28 at 276 Eighth Ave. NW in Ephrata.

The heritage meeting, with Schiffner will follow lunch. She will share a Larson AFB collection her husband gathered when he was a law enforcement officer and frequented Larson.

Larson, now Grant County International Airport, was opened in 1942 as a training base for World War II pilots. It was closed in 1966, just as the Vietnam War was heating up.
