He was born on January 10, 1929 in Emmett, Idaho to Willard and Mary "Bixel" Lowther. The family moved to Clark Fork, Idaho in 1937. After graduating from Clark Fork High School in 1947 Dick enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War, stationed in Newfoundland. On August 30, 1952 he married Phyllis Ekstedt and settled briefly in Spokane. They moved to Moses Lake in 1953 where he worked in the automotive industry. Dick was a part owner in B & D Automotive/American from 1968 to 1978.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis; 3 children; Lynn (Theresa) Wenatchee, WA., Julie(Jerome) Geerdes, Blackduck, MN; Kerry (Tim) Harvey, Pateros, WA; four grandchildren and 1 brother, Russell of Tusla, OK. His brothers Robert and Raymond preceded him in death.

Dick was an avid bird hunter and especially enjoyed hunting with his long time friends, Stan Hall and Clarence Roberts. He also looked forward to opening day of fishing with his grandsons at Alta Lake each year. But most of all he cherished time spent with his family and friends. His sense of humor and quick wit is the trait that will be remembered most by all who knew him.
