EPHRATA - Ephrata Councilmember Heidi Schultheis announced she plans to leave her position after the July 20 meeting.

Schultheis joined the council in 2008, filling a seat vacated by Christine Youngberg.

She won the seat in an election following the appointment.

Schultheis announced she was recently married and planned to move to Colorado Springs, Colo., with her family.

"I am sad and happy at the same time to announce that this is going to be my second to last meeting," she said. "I've enjoyed it immensely, being here at city council, but my husband doesn't like having me be up here in a second state, while he's down there."

Mayor Chris Jacobson congratulated her on her marriage and the work she's done for the council.

City Administrator Wes Crago said the mayor won't be taking any action on appointing a replacement until after Schultheis resigns.

"I would anticipate that the mayor would be prepared to appoint an individual to the remainder of her term," he said.

The mayor is likely to appoint William Coe to fill Schultheis' position, Crago said. Coe is running unopposed for the council seat in November's election.
