Trump wrong on immigration, other things
Trump states he’s a genius. Well, he’s no Albert Einstein. Eighteen billion dollars on this border wall could be put to better use on healthcare, education, mental health, shelters for the homeless, housing for many with records, veterans and so much more. Congress, especially Republicans, ignore the facts against Trump and his family concerning allegations of Russian involvement in the presidential election, calling this fake news in Trump’s Twitter post. Republicans are willing to risk their election especially concerning Dreamers and DACA deportations. So many were good enough to work your fields for low wages for years. How is this any different from Hitler labeling Jews? Hitler used concentration camps and gases. We hold people in immigration holding cells waiting to be deported. Fundraising page set up for destroyed Moses Lake salon
MOSES LAKE — A GoFundMe page was set up for a Moses Lake hairstyling salon destroyed by fire Saturday night. The “Save Salon Envy ML” page had raised $1,850 as of Tuesday morning, in less than 24 hours. The salon was one of two businesses destroyed in the spectacular fire; the second was Chico’s Pizza, the longtime Moses Lake landmark. Customers from the salon and friends of owner Heather Kerekffy set up the page. They asked regular salon customers to donate the cost of their last haircut or product purchase from the salon, and for others interested in donating, to donate the cost of their last haircut. “The cost of one haircut is a small sacrifice to an individual, but pooled together with a community of caring individuals, this could really make an impact,” the page sponsors wrote. “My salon team/family is completely devastated by the fire,” Kerekffy wrote on social media. “Our lives are on hold until we find a new location.” “Heather has been an amazing hairstylist, friend and listener whenever my family has come in, and she has such a big heart, especially for those with special needs,” wrote Connie Suehero on the GoFundMe page. The page can be found at www.gofundme.com/save-salon-envy-ml.

Guaranteed income won't work
There are only two alternatives to free enterprise. These are forced enterprise or no enterprise. I see Duane Pitts’ letter guaranteeing minimum wages. Duane has not been by here yet with his “fistful of dollars,” but I admire his generosity. There is a problem with Duane’s letter, though; it reeks with the stench of government force. Free enterprise allows Duane to give his money to anyone he chooses, but government force destroys freedom. Force turns free enterprise into forced enterprise like in the old Soviet Union or pre-1865 southern states.

Love thy neighbor during times of strife
The debate on how to best solve overcrowding at Moses Lake High School became heated at last week’s board meeting and understandably so. Just when the issue appeared to be solved with the narrow approval of a $135 million construction bond to build a second high school and an 11th elementary school, a group of taxpayers challenged the validity of the election in court. They disagree with how the disputed ballots were counted. The matter is still tied up in the state Court of Appeals, meaning the school district cannot legally proceed with construction. Many questions remain. Some believe the election was handled improperly and there are other, cheaper solutions to help students.

Revival comes through knowledge
I have been talking about revival for nearly five years but I wonder if I am on the same page as other members of the church. My understanding is that revival is for the church at large, Evangelistic crusades have been billed as revival for many years now and I fear that our people believe this revival is just another crusade. Revival indicates that something needs to be revived. In this case, faith is what needs to be revived. The writer of Romans said “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” These words had me baffled for many years because having knowledge of someone does not mean we know them. I finally asked the Lord for the answer and I learned hearing is a metaphor for understanding. When we read that verse as faith comes by understanding and understanding by the Word of God, the words make sense. It therefore becomes a necessity to have a relationship with the Living Word through study of the inspired word. The faith that comes through this relationship with our savior is always truth.

U.S. Postal (lack of) Service
I believe I’m not the only person in Moses Lake who is extremely frustrated with the US Postal (lack of) Service and its inability to accurately deliver our mail. I know that if I performed my job as poorly as a delivery person does, I would not be employed. Unfortunately we are stuck with these poor performers and poor standards that the U.S. Postal Service finds as acceptable mail delivery standards. Three days in a row I had to take time out of my day to go over to the post office and speak with a supervisor in regards to receiving someone else’s very important mail at both my home mailbox and PO Box. The address that was on the mail I received at my home wasn’t even remotely close to what my address is. The supervisor apologized to me regarding this gross negligence and informed me that the delivery people responsible for my locations would be spoken to. I am not satisfied with that reply. These actions continue to occur and all I get is an apology. Not acceptable. People, if you receive someone else’s please be courteous and return it to the post office or place it in the correct mailbox. Oh, wait, isn’t that what the delivery person is supposed to, place the mail in the correct mailbox? If you are as frustrated with the lack of mail delivery service as I am, don’t contact the Post Office, contact your U.S. Congressman, Dan Newhouse, since the U.S. Postal Service is a Federal agency. I know I don’t want to continue receiving or opening other individuals’ phone bill, DSHS information or bank statements, nor do I want someone to receive or open my mail. Will the Post Office pay for my new checks when I have to close my account because my account number has been compromised or will they place a fraud alert on my credit report when my Social Security number has been compromised and my identity stolen?
Christmas not the only reason to celebrate in winter

We may only be stuck with the possibility of a ‘happy holiday.’”

Republican tax bill will make debt worse
This new Republican tax bill will add $1.5 trillion to the debt. The Republican Party used to be the party who cared about the debt and spending. This new tax bill will start to harass Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. They already call people on Social Security sorry and lazy. So mark my words, they’re coming for Social Security and Medicare. But the most sad part is that young children in school will now have to pay for this new tax bill, and it’s not fair to them. Nobody in Washington is trying to help students with their student loans, but they’re making students pay for a tax bill giving to the rich and corporations.
