Capital budget includes funding for George Industrial Park

GEORGE — The passage of a statewide capital budget finally means that a number of projects planned and budgeted for by ports, school districts, cities and counties across the state have finally been approved.

And that includes two projects to improve the roads and water infrastructure at the Port of Quincy’s industrial park in George.

According to a news release from the Port of Quincy, the state has approved $410,000 to help the town of George build a water system for the industrial park — located along SR 281 near the intersection with Road 1 NW and Beverly Burke Rd. NW — as well as $700,000 to construct “two asphalt travel lanes” within the industrial park.

Set up by the Port of Quincy, Industrial Park No. 5 is home to the Ancient Lake Winery. The city of George also has a little triangle of land nearby that hosts George’s water treatment facility.

The water system will connect the industrial park to the treatment facility, according to the news release. The port also said a number of businesses have expressed an interest in expanding or setting up shop in the industrial park “if the water and road infrastructure projects are completed.”

Because of that, the port believes that the construction of the road and water projects “will spur much needed job growth and economic development in the George, WA, area,” the news release said.
