Moses Lake is blessed by Cancer Foundation

In our great town of Moses Lake we are so very blessed to have among us two angels. There is Angel, and yes that is her name, and how fitting it is. Then there is a very special lady Jean. Together they are what keeps the Cancer Foundation running.

But all this wouldn’t even be possible without the wonderful donations of so very many businesses here in town, the generosity of private citizens and memorials in memory of loved ones.

I found out before the holidays that there are so many people out there who were not even aware of this wonderful foundation, that it even existed or what good it does for people fighting cancer. They were amazed when I told them of all the benefits you can receive from these ladies of mercy just by walking through the door of the Cancer Foundation. Jean will help by listening to you, then helping you in any way she can to make life a little bit easier. You can receive gas gift cards, food vouchers, et cetera. They have wigs, lap blankets to keep you warm when going through your treatments and much more.

One of the most important things that my husband and I so appreciated when we were both fighting cancer at the same time was the emotional support we received. You know you matter; they cared about you. Jean called every week to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. If we were unable to get down to fill our gas cards, she mailed them even when we were in Seattle.

Now beginning this new year they will be providing meals to the ones unable to prepare their own meals and for the special diets they have to be on.

Moses Lake is so very fortunate to be blessed with all the great people who make all this possible, to have our Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation. It is open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

So we really need to get the word out and let everyone know, if you hear of someone who just received that word “cancer” and their world is turned upside down. You don’t have to do this alone; there is help out there.

One way you can help too is coming up on Feb. 3 at the 4-H Building out at the Grant County Fairgrounds, the annual Country Sweetheart Benefit Auction. All donations go to our local Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation.

You never know when one of your loved ones, or even you yourself, will hear the word “cancer.” No one knows this better than myself of anyone who has lost their loved one to cancer.

Jean tells me all the time when the door opens she fears it will be someone new who needs their help.

This is not just for our Moses Lake residents, but for all the surrounding areas. So please support this wonderful blessing we have here in Moses Lake. God bless those angels.
