Rodney Harwood/Columbia Basin Herald Othello junior Alexis Coronado (42) puts up a left-handed runner during second-quarter action Friday night against Prosser.

OTHELLO — Othello junior Macy Hampton made two free throws to finally break the spell, but the damage had already been done with an 18-0 Prosser run in the second quarter.

The Mustangs (10-1, 8-1 CWAC) have just the one loss to the Central Washington Athletic Conference frontrunners, Wapato (9-1, 8-0 CWAC), and they came out of the holiday break with a big show and a 62-23 victory over the Huskies (2-8, 2-7 CWAC).

Hampton had another stellar game for Othello, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds. The 5-foot-8 junior had five of her eight rebounds on the defensive glass and was 2-of-6 from 3-point range.

In fact it was that Prosser control of the glass that led to much of the trouble. Madison Stallcop and Madison Golden had seven rebounds apiece for the Mustangs and 5-4 guard Marissa Cortes poured in a game-high 25 points for Prosser, which led 32-15 at the intermission. Cortes was 8-of-16 from the floor and finished five rebounds and three steals. Brooke Wheeler added 10 points and four rebounds for the Mustangs.

Othello sophomore Lane Simpson played well in spots, finishing with four points and four rebounds before fouling out. Coronado was 1-of-4 from 3-point range. Janissa Garza was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line and finished with three points and had one rebound.
