Prep roundup: Warden girls grind out first win in OT

WARDEN — Natalie Cole forced overtime with a late basket and Warden outlasted River View in the extra period 63-59.

Balanced scoring helped Warden earn its first win of the season.

Bailey Whitney led the Cougars (1-8, 1-2) with 27 points. Cassidy Turner (11), Cole (8) and Grace Richins (7) added 26 points combined.

“I was really happy with their effort,” head coach Dan Caballero said. “It was a great team win for us.”

Melanie Cazares also chipped in eight points to go along with solid defense.

“She contributed big on defense and scoring, giving us eight tonight,” Caballero said.

Warden travels to Kiona-Benton today.

Soap Lake 35, Manson 24

MANSON — Soap Lake tightened up defensively in the fourth quarter to beat Manson 35-24.

The Eagles (2-6, 2-5) held a 20-18 edge after three quarters and outscored the Trojans 15-6 in the fourth.

Sierra Janikowski poured in 14 points and Tracie Delgado scored 10.

Soap Lake hosts Tonasket, 6 p.m., on Saturday.

Boys basketball

Moses Lake Christian 48, Entiat 41

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Christian built a 10-point halftime lead and knocked off defending league and district champion Entiat 48-41.

With a short bench, the Lions tired in the third quarter but withstood any Entiat rally.

“The kids battled real well,” head coach Lonny Brown said.

Pierre Boorman scored 19 points.

Boys wrestling

Warden splits double dual at Royal

ROYAL CITY — Warden handled Wahluke 64-12, but lost a 36-36 tie with Royal on criteria.

“We wrestled great, though,” Warden head coach Brent Cox said. “I haven’t seen our guys peal like that in a while.”

Warden won more of the contested matches with Royal, however, three forfeits by the Cougars boosted the Knights’ total.

Warden hosts defending 1B/2B champion Tonasket today at 7 p.m.

Girls bowling

Eastmont 3, Moses Lake 2

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake nearly upset reigning state champion Eastmont Thursday at Lake Bowl.

Total pins broke a 2-2 tie, with Eastmont holding a 1,853-1,840 advantage.

Camille Sanislo led the Chiefs in Game 1 with 173 pins to win the first game 782-749.

Eastmont responded and won the second game 760-717. Sanislo once again led the Chiefs with 196 pins. Kerisa Sanislo added 153 pins.

Moses Lake regained the lead, 2-1, after winning the first Baker game 174-160. Eastmont tied the match with a win in the second Bake game 184-167.

Moses Lake (6-5, 5-5) is on the road against West Valley Jan. 9.
