ROYAL CITY — Othello junior Macy Hampton had a career night, pouring in 33 of the Huskies 55 points. But Royal countered with a 24-point second quarter to beat the Huskies 69-55 in non-league action Tuesday night.

The night was a shooter’s showcase. Hampton hit four from beyond the arc in the first half, including three 3-point goals in the first quarter en route to her 33 points. Royal sophomore Emma Wilhelm was up to the task, leading the Knights with 20 points.

“It really helps when my teammates help with a pick and roll and screens. There were some easy baskets,” said Hampton, who scored 11 points in the first quarter and finished the first half with five 3-pointers. “I was really able to come off the screen from the 3-point line. But if I could I tried to drive as well. I really like shooting the 3-pointer and tonight they were going down.”

The Huskies (2-12) took the early lead, 13-8. But the Knights (6-7), who are on a four-game winning streak, put together one of their best scoring quarters of the season, scoring 24 to take a 32-28 lead at the half.

Other than the big swing in the second quarter, the two Columbia Basin programs played stride-for-stride in the second half. Josie Phillips and Chenoa Louie scored 14 apiece for Royal. Lane Simpson had 12 and Janissa Garza four points for the Huskies.

Othello hosts Quincy and Royal hosts River View as play returns to league on Friday.
